Position Information
The Lubbock District is looking for a District Sign Technician I in the Brownfield Maintenance Section. This position assists with the installation, maintenance, inspection, and repair of roadway signs and traffic control devices on state-maintained highways. This position will work as part of a maintenance team committed to supporting safe and reliable transportation while adhering to TxDOT safety policies and procedures. Position Description
Performs entry-level transportation related work installing, repairing, and maintaining traffic signs, mailboxes, and delineators in a district. Work includes maintaining inventory and records of signs and materials and using specialized tools and equipment related to sign installation. Employees at this level perform assignments following specific instructions and standard practices and are subject to frequent review by the immediate supervisor.
Essential Duties:

Assists transportation maintenance crews with maintenance-related work as required; may respond to assist with emergency
situations/conditions. -
Moves equipment, tools, materials, and products
-
Maintains expense records and inventory of materials, supplies, and equipment.

Mixes and places concrete for sign support foundations; moves cement bags and other items related to these duties

Operates a boom and bucket truck and/or specialized sign truck to install roadway signs.

Performs and maintains inventory of signs.
-
Performs preventative maintenance on sign truck.
-
Repairs and installs signs, supports, foundations and delineators in accordance with Manual on Uniform Traffic Control
Devices (MUTCD) and other departmental guidance. -
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
No experience or education required.
Licenses and Certifications:

Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.

Must have a Class "A" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or have obtained a Class "A" CDL, within 120 calendar days from date of employment.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Subject to environmental conditions; protection from weather but not temperature changes.

Subject to extreme cold and heat; below 32 and/or above 100 degrees for more than one hour

Subject to hazards-moving vehicle/ mechanical parts, high places/heat, or chemicals.

Required to wear protective gear-respirator, hard hat, or other devices

Sedentary work; lift up to 10lbs at a time and occasionally carry files/small tools.

Light work: Lift up to 20 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 10 lbs

Medium work: Lift up to 50 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 25 lbs

Balancing, walking, standing, crouching on various surfaces without falling
