Assistant Teacher of Early Childhood Education
Reports to: The Early Childhood Director
Responsibilities:
Meet all Staff Qualifications, and follow all rules and regulations as written by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services, found at www.ocfs.ny.gov.
Teaching & Curriculum: To assist the Lead Teacher with the following:
1. Assit in providing appropriate curriculum to the ages of the children and their developmental levels and interests, including children with developmental delays or disabilities, which promote the children’s cognitive, educational, social, cultural, physical, emotional, language, and recreational development.
2. Consistently treat children, parents, staff, and members fairly, with dignity, respect, and compassion, while maintaining confidentiality.
3. Assist lead teacher to establish, implement, and post a daily schedule of program activities that offers reasonable regularity in routines, including snack and meal periods, nap and rest periods, indoor activities, daily outdoor playtime and a variety of large muscle activities throughout the day. There must be physical activity, appropriate to the ages of the children in care, every day. Assistant teachers of infants must also include supervised periods of time during which the awake infant is placed on his stomach, back, or side allowing them to move freely and interact socially, thus developing motor skills and social skills. All schedules must include a routine of good personal hygiene practices.
Administrative and Classroom Responsibilities: To assist the Lead Teacher with the following:
Keep accurate attendance records of yourself in the ECE Office.
Conduct daily health checks of all children entering the room in which you start your day.
Participate in regular staff meetings and trainings, and scheduled evening events for parents including parent teacher conferences, meet the teacher night, and graduation.
Maintain current certifications in CPR/AED and First Aid.
Education Requirements & Staff Qualifications: High School Diploma or one year experience working with children less than 13 years of age.
Must also have basic knowledge of Jewish Values and Holidays to be incorporated into the curriculum.
Must be in good physical and mental health and have the energy and emotional stability necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of their positions.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
· Employee must have the ambulatory ability to stand, walk, sit, and reach for objects
· Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds
· Employee must have visual acuity, including close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust vision focus
· Employee must have the ability to focus and work efficiently in an environment with low to moderate noise level
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $17.00 - $18.00 per hour
