About Us
Family Centered Services of Alaska (FCSA) is a nonprofit 501 (c) (3) corporation founded in 1989 by Fairbanks, Alaska community members committed to helping children with a wide spectrum of behavioral and mental health needs. Today, FCSA has over 100 employees dedicated to our mission of providing unconditional care to children and their families.
FCSA provides behavioral and mental health services to youth aged 5-19. Services include outpatient therapy, education, foster care, and short or long-term residential treatment. FCSA is nationally accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) and was one of the first organizations to be licensed by the state to establish, recruit, and monitor foster homes.
About the Job:
The LPN will provide direct support to FCSA’s Psychiatrist, and as licensed and/or certified: Provide medication management, administration, and monitoring of client medications. Develop and maintain records as necessary for the administration, dispensing, and disposal of all medications including over the counter (OTC) medications for FCSA clients. Provide physical examinations, as necessary for FCSA clients. Arrange for additional examinations or tests with local medical professionals. Provide health and medication training to FCSA clients and staff.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Maintain records of each client’s medications, dosing, and administration such as changes and authorizations.
- Dispense medications.
- Prepare medication refill orders and arrange for refills under the supervision of
- FCSA’s Psychiatrist.
- Prepare and present classes on hygiene and health to FCSA clients.
- Prepare and present classes to staff as required (e.g. medication monitoring, side effects of medications, emergency procedures).
- Provide health screening of clients.
- Arrange for examinations and tests for residents with local medical providers.
- Report activities in client note/billing format for each client including medical, clinical, and rehabilitation notes.
- Assist other staff as needed.
- Participate in clinical meetings as required.
- Respond appropriately in crisis situations.
- As mandated by Alaska law, report child abuse and neglect.
- Maintain client confidentiality.
- Maintain FCSA’s Psychiatrist’s schedule.
- Act as a liaison between FCSA staff and Psychiatrist.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- All applicants must be at least 21 years of age due to State of AK regulation
- Valid Drivers License. Applicants will be required to submit a driving record if selected for the position.
- State of Alaska licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse or working to obtain licensure as negotiated.
- Two years experience as a nurse, preferably working with children and young adults 18 or younger.
- Freedom from criminal convictions that may adversely affect the employee’s ability to work safely with children, contingent on a fingerprint & background records check conducted by the State of Alaska Division of Health Care Services Background Check Unit.
- Current first aid and CPR certificate or ability to become certified.
- Other internal (FCSA) or external certification and/or training determined essential.
