Responsibilities
- Operate tractor-trailers with a focus on safety, compliance, and efficiency in accordance with FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations and DOT (Department of Transportation) standards
- Handle various types of freight including refrigerated trailers, flatbeds, tankers, hazardous materials, and dangerous goods with proper care and adherence to regulations
- Load and unload cargo using manual handling techniques or equipment such as forklifts and roll-off trucks when necessary
- Navigate routes efficiently using GPS navigation systems to ensure timely deliveries across designated territories
- Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, inspections, and cargo handling in compliance with FMCSA regulations
- Conduct routine vehicle inspections and perform basic maintenance checks to ensure optimal operation of trucks and trailers
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers for scheduling, route adjustments, and load updates while maintaining professionalism at all times
Skills
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving including tractor-trailer operations and route driving
- Familiarity with manual transmission trucks and various trailer types such as refrigerated trailers, flatbeds, tankers, dump trucks, and roll-off trucks
- Strong knowledge of FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations, DOT (Department of Transportation) rules, and hazardous materials regulations
- Ability to handle freight safely through proper manual handling techniques and equipment operation like forklifts when required
- Excellent navigation skills utilizing GPS systems for efficient route planning and delivery execution
- Experience in load & unload procedures ensuring cargo safety and compliance with logistics cargo handling standards
- Demonstrated ability to deliver goods safely while adhering to all safety protocols related to hazardous materials and dangerous goods
- Good physical condition for manual handling tasks and long hours on the road
