About the Role:
We are seeking a dedicated professional to provide specialized animal research support within our pharmaceutical development facilities located in Kalamazoo and Richland. While your primary focus will be on canine and feline companion animals, you may also work with a variety of other species, including bovine, equine, swine, poultry, and rodents.
As a member of the Veterinary Services team, you will play a vital role in maintaining high standards of care and research integrity. Your daily responsibilities will include:

Managing supply and inventory levels

Overseeing medical case documentation and care

Supervising nutritional intake and weight tracking for the colony

Coordinating and executing preventive health schedules and treatments

Documenting daily health observations within our electronic medical record systems to ensure data accuracy

Participating in team meetings for Veterinary Services

Engaging actively in clinical rounds to improve patient outcomes

Contributing to various departmental veterinary projects

Completing necessary regulatory documentation

Providing comprehensive surgical and dental support, including pre-operative prep and post-operative recovery monitoring

Ensuring patient safety through vigilant anesthesia monitoring

Mentoring animal care staff on proper observation techniques and husbandry protocols

Performing essential technical tasks such as phlebotomy, triage exams, IV catheterization, and diagnostic testing to support overall animal health

Executing study-specific protocols, including drug administration and surgical model assistance, to help advance our research objectives

Ensuring all laboratory and veterinary equipment remains in optimal working condition

Maintaining strict oversight of controlled substance logs
Qualifications:

You must hold a degree from an accredited 2- or 4-year Veterinary Technician program and possess an active LVT license in at least one state, with the commitment to obtain Michigan licensure within your first year.

You must be comfortable utilizing necessary safety gear, including N95 masks and various eye or ear protection.

We prefer candidates who bring at least two years of professional experience from either private practice or industry settings.
Preferred Expertise:

Prior background working as an LVT within a research environment.

Demonstrated ability to lead and train technical veterinary personnel.
Operational Details:
Please be aware that this role may require travel between our different campus locations to ensure consistent site coverage. You will be working in an environment that involves exposure to chemicals and zoonotic pathogens, which may include working in ABSL-2 facilities that require specific showering protocols for entry and exit.
