Overview
Join our dynamic healthcare team as an Optician, where you will play a vital role in enhancing patients' vision and overall well-being. This position offers an exciting opportunity to combine your expertise in optics, patient care, and retail sales within a fast-paced clinical environment. As an Optician, you will assist patients in selecting eyewear, dispense spectacles and contact lenses, and ensure compliance with health regulation policies. Your energetic approach and attention to detail will help deliver exceptional customer service while adhering to strict medical confidentiality and healthcare standards.
Duties
- Assist patients with eyewear fittings, adjustments, and repairs to ensure optimal comfort and vision correction
- Dispense spectacle lenses and contact lenses accurately, following prescriptions and optical standards
- Operate POS systems and cash registers efficiently for retail transactions
- Maintain detailed medical records using EMR/EHR systems while respecting clinical confidentiality policies
- Conduct basic eye assessments such as vital signs and physiological measurements when necessary
- Provide excellent customer service by addressing patient inquiries, explaining eyewear options, and guiding purchases
- Support laboratory processes including eyewear frame adjustments, lens ordering, and optical laboratory experience tasks
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations, health regulation policies, and state healthcare regulations at all times
Qualifications
- Proven experience in optical retail or clinical settings, including optical laboratory work and eyewear fittings
- Knowledge of ophthalmology principles, anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology relevant to eye care
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems, POS systems, and medical coding practices
- Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations, clinical confidentiality policies, and health regulation policies
- Ability to perform basic math calculations for prescriptions, retail math, and financial transactions
- Excellent customer service skills with a friendly and professional demeanor
- Experience working with pediatric or senior care populations is a plus
- Valid certification or license as required by state healthcare regulations for opticians or related roles
