As a School Bus Driver/Messenger, you will operate various types of vehicles—including school buses, paratransit vans, and delivery vehicles—adhering to all safety regulations and traffic laws. Duties
- Safely operate school buses, transit buses, or delivery vehicles according to established routes and schedules.
- Transport students, seniors, or individuals with disabilities, ensuring their safety and comfort at all times.
- Assist passengers with boarding and disembarking, including wheelchair assistance and behavior management when necessary.
- Follow traffic laws, vehicle codes, emergency response procedures for transportation, and school policy guidelines diligently.
- Conduct pre-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety and report any mechanical issues promptly.
- Respond quickly to traffic changes or emergencies with appropriate stop procedures and communication protocols.
- Maintain accurate logs of trips, passenger counts, incidents, and vehicle maintenance records in compliance with transportation safety regulations.
Skills
- Proven experience in bus driving, commercial driving, or transit bus operation with a clean driving record.
- Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, emergency response procedures for transportation, and state/local commercial driving laws.
- Strong communication skills in English; multilingual abilities are a plus for serving diverse communities.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting when assisting passengers or handling equipment safely.
- Experience working with children or seniors; childcare or senior care experience is highly valued.
- First aid certification including CPR; knowledge of emergency stop procedures is essential.
- Skilled in behavior management and student discipline to ensure a safe environment onboard.
- Familiarity with wheelchair assistance techniques and paratransit services.
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to respond quickly to traffic changes and passenger needs.
- Writing skills for completing reports accurately; understanding of transportation safety regulations is critical.
