The After School Academy Assistant supports the Director and lead staff in creating a safe, engaging, and Christ-centered environment for children after the school day. This role involves supervising activities, assisting with homework, encouraging positive social interaction, and ensuring the overall well-being of students. The Assistant plays a vital role in advancing the mission of Point Hope Church by fostering growth, learning, and faith in every child.
RESPONSIBILITIES & SKILLS:
- Support the After School Academy Director in daily program operations.
- Supervise and ensure the safety, security, and well-being of students.
- Assist with planning and leading age-appropriate academic, recreational, arts, and enrichment activities.
- Provide homework help and academic support as needed.
- Reinforce classroom rules and behavior expectations with fairness, patience, and respect.
- Encourage inclusion, teamwork, and respect for diversity among students.
- Communicate effectively and positively with children, families, and staff.
- Support program logistics, including set-up, clean-up, and materials organization.
- Monitor attendance and assist with recordkeeping as directed.
- Consistently uphold the ministry and mission of Point Hope Church.
- Notify the Director in advance of planned absences (except in cases of illness).
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Previous experience working with children in an educational, childcare, or recreational setting.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage groups of children with patience, consistency, and creativity.
- Energetic, flexible, and committed to serving in a faith-based environment.
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Must pass a complete background check and MinistrySafe training, and meet all state/local childcare requirements.
- Demonstrates high moral character, discretion, and confidentiality in alignment with the values of Point Hope Church.
ADDITIONAL EMPLOYEE-RELATED BENEFITS:
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 3 p.m. – 6 p.m. Compensation: up to $20/hour. Additional Hours: Required on Charleston County School District Teacher Work Days, Early Release Days, and Half Days. Work Setting: Primarily indoors in classroom and recreation spaces, with some outdoor activities. Physical Requirements: Active engagement with children, including standing, moving, and participating in activities.
Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
