Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly skilled Construction Controller to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in civil construction and project-based accounting, with expertise in managing financial records, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and supporting project profitability. The Construction Accountant will be instrumental in overseeing all financial aspects related to construction operations, ensuring adherence to industry standards and best practices.
Duties
- Prepare and analyze financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports specific to construction projects.
- Manage project budgets, cost tracking, and variance analysis to ensure financial efficiency and project profitability.
- Perform account reconciliations such as general ledger reconciliation, bank reconciliation, and accounts receivable/payable management.
- Oversee job cost accounting processes using software such as Sage, PeopleSoft, Xero, or other relevant financial systems.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act), and other regulatory requirements relevant to construction finance.
- Conduct financial report writing and interpretation to support management decision-making and strategic planning.
- Support regulatory reporting obligations related to LIHTC (Low-Income Housing Tax Credit), securities law, or governmental accounting standards as applicable.
- Assist with audit preparations, internal controls implementation, and adherence to corporate accounting policies.
- Provide mentorship and training to junior accounting staff while fostering a collaborative team environment focused on continuous improvement.
Experience
- Proven experience in corporate accounting within the civil construction industry or related sectors such as real estate development or infrastructure projects.
- Extensive knowledge of financial concepts including double entry bookkeeping, accrual accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
- Hands-on experience with Sage accounting software
- Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks including GAAP, SOX compliance requirements, and governmental accounting standards.
- Familiarity with tax experience related to construction projects or real estate is advantageous.
- Demonstrated ability in financial report interpretation and financial statement preparation for complex projects.
- Experience with account reconciliation processes including bank reconciliation and general ledger reconciliation.
- Excellent analytical skills combined with effective communication abilities for clear financial report writing and presentation.
- Prior mentoring experience within finance teams is preferred; a proactive approach towards professional development is highly valued.
Pay: $135,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
