BUILDING OFFICIAL (E-3)

Under general direction, has responsibility for securing compliance with the Connecticut State Building Code and all rules and regulations adopted thereunder relative to the mode or manner of construction and the materials to be used in the erection, addition to, alteration, repair, removal, demolition, installation of service equipment, and the location, use occupancy and maintenance of all buildings and structures.
Required Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
High school graduate. Associate Degree in Building Technology preferred. State of Connecticut regulations require licensure for the position of Building Official. The minimum qualifications for licensure are no less than five (5) years’ experience in the construction, design or supervision of construction of buildings on a full time basis. Up to a maximum of two (2) years’ experience as an Assistant Building Official or one year as a Provisional Building Official may be substituted for experience in construction, design, or supervision of construction of buildings. The candidate shall be generally informed on the qualities and strengths of building materials; the accepted requirements of building constructions; good practices of fire prevention; the accepted requirements for safe exit facilities and on other items of equipment essential for the safety, comfort and convenience of the building occupants and all other mandatory requirements included in the Connecticut Basic Building Code (CBBC). A candidate holding a Provisional Building Official’s License must complete licensure as a Building Official at the end of one year after appointment. Ability to maintain effective and cooperative relations with building owners, contractors and the public. Ability to manage office and personnel. Salary Range:
$98,000 - $120,000 Depending upon qualifications.
