Summary
Are you a dedicated library professional looking to make a meaningful impact on your community? The Shrewsbury Public Library is seeking a Sunday Reference Librarian to join our team. This seasonal role, with its limited weekend hours, is perfect for individuals seeking a focused, part-time opportunity to stay connected to the library field and their community.
In this role, you will be the heart of our Sunday operations, providing in-person and electronic reference services. You will empower patrons by assisting with research, navigating online resources, and troubleshooting technology, including tablets and e-readers. Under the general direction of the Sunday Supervisor, you will ensure a seamless, welcoming, and efficient environment from opening to closing.

What You’ll Do:
Performs a wide variety of services at the public reference desk including: assisting patrons with reference and information requests, conducting basic research, helping patrons with public access catalogs, printers, computers, and online resources; training users on use of e-readers, tablets and other devices; managing bookings of group study rooms; and making information referrals. Handles issues as they arise.

As a core member of the library’s small Sunday staff, works directly with Access services staff, Children’s staff, and the Sunday Supervisor to ensure successful operation of all library services from opening to closing on Sundays

Communicates regularly with the Adult Services team to ensure consistency of reference service between weekdays and Sundays.

Oversees the work of library pages, as needed.

Performs other related duties as assigned.
What We’re Looking For:
Bachelor’s degree required; ALA accredited Masters of Library and Information Sciences Degree preferred; two years of professional experience in library reference services; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Strong proficiency with ILS (preferably Evergreen).

Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping.

Knowledge of library practices and procedures, and the ability to manage materials effectively.

Excellent collaboration skills and the ability to foster positive relationships with colleagues, and patrons.

Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
