Job Overview
The Human Resources Specialist is responsible for supporting key HR functions including recruitment, leave administration (FMLA), employee relations, payroll coordination, and compliance. This role partners with leadership to maintain a positive work environment, ensure consistent policy application, and support workforce needs across the organization. Experience in the poultry or food production industry is a plus but not required.
Key accountabilities
Recruitment & Staffing
- Manage full-cycle recruiting including job postings, candidate sourcing, screening, interviewing, and onboarding
- Partner with hiring managers to identify staffing needs and ensure timely hiring
- Coordinate pre-employment processes (background checks, drug screens, new hire paperwork)
- Support onboarding and orientation to ensure a smooth employee transition
FMLA & Leave Administration
- Administer Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and other leave programs in compliance with federal and state regulations
- Track eligibility, send required notices, maintain documentation, and monitor leave usage
- Coordinate with employees, supervisors, and managers.
- Ensure compliance with ADA, PWFA, and other applicable leave and accommodation laws
Employee Relations
- Serve as a point of contact for employee concerns and workplace issues
- Conduct prompt, thorough, and impartial investigations
- Partner with management to resolve employee relations matters and recommend appropriate actions
- Promote a positive workplace culture and ensure fair and consistent policy enforcement
Payroll Support
- Assist with payroll processing, including timekeeping review and data accuracy
- Address employee payroll inquiries and resolve discrepancies
- Ensure compliance with wage and hour laws, including overtime and deductions
Compliance & HR Administration
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations
- Maintain accurate employee records and HR systems
- Support audits, reporting, and documentation requirements
- Assist in development, implementation, and communication of HR policies and procedures
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred
- or, 3–5 years of HR generalist or specialist experience
- Strong knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices (FMLA, ADA, wage & hour, etc.)
- Experience in recruiting, leave management, employee relations, and payroll processes
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with professionalism
- Ability to work independently while effectively prioritizing the full range of HR responsibilities.
- Experience in poultry, agricultural, manufacturing, or food production environment preferred
