Position: Timber Cutter / Chainsaw Operator

Thompson Specialist is a professional logging company serving the Appalachian region. We are committed to safe, efficient timber harvesting while maintaining high standards of workmanship and environmental responsibility. We are seeking an experienced Timber Cutter to join our logging crew.
Job Responsibilities
Timber Harvesting: Safely and efficiently fell trees, limb trees, and prepare timber for transport.
Chainsaw Operation: Operate and maintain chainsaws in accordance with industry safety standards and company procedures.
Safety Compliance: Follow all OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and required PPE standards at all times.
Equipment Maintenance: Perform daily inspections and routine maintenance on chainsaws and related equipment.
Site Awareness: Assess hazards, identify lean and fall patterns, and maintain a safe working environment for all crew members.
Team Collaboration: Work closely with equipment operators and other crew members to maintain production goals and safe operations.
Environmental Stewardship: Follow sustainable forestry practices and comply with all applicable harvesting guidelines.
Qualifications
- Timber cutting experience required.
- References verifying timber cutting experience are required.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Demonstrated ability to safely operate a chainsaw in a production logging environment.
- Knowledge of proper felling techniques, limbing, bucking, and hazard tree assessment.
- Ability to work safely in rugged terrain and changing weather conditions.
- Strong understanding of logging safety procedures.
- Valid driver's license required.
- CDL is a plus but not required.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Physical and Work Environment Requirements
- Ability to work in rugged terrain, steep slopes, and remote logging locations.
- Must be able to stand, walk, climb, bend, and lift up to 75 pounds regularly.
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and snow.
- Must be able to perform physically demanding work for extended periods.
