Our clinic hours are designed to support work-life balance: we’re open from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays; 8:00 am to 1:00 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays; and 9:00 am to 1:00 pm every other Saturday. No after-hours emergencies, no overnight boarding, and no need to tend to pets over weekends or holidays. You’ll also get every other Saturday off and Sundays are always closed—hooray for balance!
Our Veterinary Assistants play an important role in every pet’s experience here, so we need someone who is attentive, quick to find solutions, calm under pressure, organized, and genuinely kind. Family Tree Animal Clinic (FTAC) is a modern, paperless practice dedicated exclusively to dogs and cats. We’re equipped with in-house diagnostics, digital x-rays, dental services, ultrasound, and more. Duties include (but are not limited to):
- Assist the veterinarian in the exam room by reviewing patient medical records/notes to discern the nature of the visit and suggest any necessary tests or procedures, restraining the animal, preparing forms, locating and sterilizing instruments, preparing patients for procedures, collecting lab samples, taking radiographs (whole body and dental), preparing medications/vaccines, filling and dispensing prescriptions as directed by veterinarian, electronically documenting history and examination findings.
- Ready and able to perform the full range of “tableside” assistance with supervision during treatments and medical, dental, anesthetic and/or surgical procedures.
- Communicate with clients regarding the medical status of their pet, how to care for their pets after discharge from the hospital, how to administer medications, etc.
- Provide accurate information to clients concerning fees, hospital policies and procedures, medications, etc. in accordance with hospital culture
- Appointment scheduling and data entry
- Processing payments
- Collaborating with Team Members to facilitate the efficient and effective running of the hospital
- Maintain upkeep of work environment.
Required Experience:
- Two (2+) years of recent experience in a small animal veterinary practice environment as a Veterinary Assistant with increasing responsibilities
- Able to draw blood, place IV catheters, perform nail trim/dremel, anal gland expression with supervision
- Knowledgeable on how to properly monitor patients under anesthesia via standard anesthetic equipment (i.e. Surgivet), take digital whole body radiographs, and perform dental prophylaxis (cleaning) with supervision.
- Assist with performing routine veterinary medical, surgical, and dental procedures (i.e. collect samples, administer injections, draw blood/urine, administer vaccines/medications, anesthesia monitoring, dental COHAT, etc).
- Ability to correctly and efficiently decipher medical records to determine vaccination status, prescribed medications, and past/current medical history, etc.
- Lift and carry animals or materials weighing 50 lbs. or more
- Knowledgeable on how to properly restrain well-mannered and aggressive dogs or cats safely
- Handle dogs weighing up to 150 lbs.
- Efficient computer data entry skills.
- Willingness to pursue further education leading to Licensed Veterinary Technician status.
- And let’s not forget…Must enjoy working with people and animals
Preferred Experience:
- Knowledge of Cornerstone Practice Management software
- Working in a paperless medical record environment
- Two (2+) or more years of recent experience in a small animal veterinary practice as a Veterinary Assistant with increasing responsibilities
- Able to perform ultrasound guided cystocentesis with supervision
- Some College
