WHS Communications Coordinator Job Description
The Communications Coordinator is responsible for supporting the successful execution of Watauga Humane Society's communications and marketing initiatives. This role uses a creative approach to engage the community through a variety of communications tactics that are aligned with the Watauga Humane Society mission and brand. This is a full-time position with a pay rate commensurate with qualifications and experience and is eligible for employee benefits.
Reports to: Director of Development and Communications
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Create compelling written and visual content for digital and print communications, including social media, email campaigns, direct mail, website content, brochures, press releases, videos/reels, and other marketing materials.
- Capture and share stories that highlight the impact of Watauga Humane Society's mission.
- Assist in developing communication plans and content calendars that support fundraising campaigns, events, adoptions, and organizational priorities.
- Manage Watauga Humane Society's social media platforms by creating content, scheduling posts, monitoring messages, and responding to or directing inquiries to appropriate staff.
- Monitor communication analytics and recommend strategies to strengthen audience engagement and campaign effectiveness.
- Develop community partnerships that advance Watauga Humane Society's mission.
- Ensure consistent messaging and branding across all communication platforms.
- Represent Watauga Humane Society at fundraising events, community outreach activities, and other public engagements while serving as a positive ambassador for the organization's mission.
- Assist in the planning, promotion, and execution of fundraising and community events.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Two or more years of experience in a communications or marketing role
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, or related field preferred
- Excellent time management, organizational skills, and the ability to meet deadlines
- Exceptional written, proofreading, and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational and project management abilities with excellent attention to detail
- Demonstrated initiative and the ability to develop creative solutions
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Experience with digital content creation tools, including graphic design, photography, and videography software; familiarity with Canva, Bloomerang, PetPoint, Meta Business Suite, and Microsoft Office is preferred.
- Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends to support fundraising and community events
