Position Overview
St. Charles Borromeo School is seeking an enthusiastic, dedicated, and student-centered 5th Grade Self-Contained Classroom Teacher for the 2026–2027 school year.
The 5th Grade Teacher will serve as the primary classroom teacher for a self-contained fifth-grade classroom and will be responsible for providing high-quality instruction across the core academic subjects, including English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and Religion.
We are looking for an educator who understands that fifth grade is an important transitional year and can provide students with the academic rigor, structure, independence, and support necessary to prepare them for middle school.
Key Responsibilities
The 5th Grade Teacher will:
- Plan and deliver engaging, standards-aligned instruction in ELA, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and Religion.
- Establish a structured, joyful, and academically rigorous classroom environment.
- Use student assessment data, including i-Ready, classroom assessments, and student work, to identify learning needs and adjust instruction.
- Implement purposeful small-group instruction and differentiated learning opportunities to meet the needs of all students.
- Provide appropriate intervention and enrichment based on student performance.
- Establish clear classroom routines, procedures, and behavioral expectations that promote student independence and responsibility.
- Regularly monitor student progress and maintain accurate academic records.
- Provide meaningful and timely feedback to students.
- Communicate consistently and professionally with families regarding student progress, successes, and areas of concern.
- Collaborate with colleagues, instructional leaders, special education providers, Title I providers, and other members of the school community.
- Participate actively in professional development, grade-level and school-wide meetings, and collaborative planning.
- Integrate technology and digital resources effectively into classroom instruction.
- Support students' social-emotional development and help build a strong classroom community.
- Incorporate Catholic values, prayer, service, and the mission of St. Charles Borromeo School into the daily classroom experience.
- Participate in school events, celebrations, liturgies, and other activities that contribute to the life of the school community.

Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
- Experience working with elementary-aged students.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to plan and deliver standards-aligned instruction.
- Commitment to creating an inclusive and academically challenging learning environment.
Preferred:
- Previous experience teaching upper-elementary students, particularly Grades 4–6.
- Experience in a self-contained classroom.
- Experience with i-Ready or other diagnostic and progress-monitoring platforms.
- Experience implementing small-group and differentiated instruction.
- Familiarity with New York State Learning Standards.
