About La Maison
La Maison School of Music is a boutique music school in a townhouse on the Upper East Side, founded by pianist Héloïse Pieaud. We teach children, teens, and adults, and our approach goes beyond technique: we want students to understand what they're playing and to keep playing long after their lessons with us end.
We are a small school, now entering our second year. We are looking for a piano teacher to take on private students and grow with us.
The Role
You will primarily teach private piano lessons; mostly beginner to intermediate children ages 6–13, along with beginner teens and adults. The ability to also lead group classes for ages 3–12 is a strong plus, as our early childhood and group theory programs continue to grow.
Teaching
- Teach weekly private lessons to students of varying ages and levels.
- Set individual goals for each student and share progress with families.
- Optionally lead group classes within our programs — Soon to Sound, Made to Play
- Contribute ideas to our curriculum: repertoire choices, teaching materials, program development.
Performances
- Prepare students for our recitals and end-of-year concert.
- Help with the artistic side of concerts: program order, rehearsals, staging.
Community
- Share ideas that make the student experience better.
What We're Looking For
- A degree in piano performance or pedagogy is mandatory; exceptional teaching experience will also be considered.
- Solid classical foundation. Jazz, harmony, composition, or arranging skills are a welcome plus.
- Real experience teaching children, and comfort teaching adult beginners.
- Genuine enthusiasm for teaching
- Clear, friendly communication with students and parents.
- Fluent English required. C2 level. French is a plus, not a requirement.
- Valid US work authorization (this is a W-2 position).
Schedule & Compensation
- $25–$35 per hour, based on experience. All on-site time is paid, including group classes.
- Up to 10–15 hours per week to start, with room to grow as enrollment increases.
- Afternoons and early evenings; Saturdays possible.
- We can build a schedule around your availability: two or three days a week works.
- Start date: September 14.
Why La Maison
You'll teach in a bright, elegant townhouse, in a school small enough that your ideas actually shape how things are done. We care about pedagogy, we care about our families, and we're building something we're proud of. If that sounds like the kind of place you'd like to teach, we'd like to hear from you.
Pay: $25.00 - $35.00 per hour
Application Question(s):
- Are you available afternoons and early evenings, and can you commit to at least two days per week starting September 14?
- How many years have you taught piano ?
