Food Handler / Food Service Aide – Daycare Setting
Position Overview:
The Food Handler/Food Service Aide is responsible for receiving, storing, preparing, serving, and documenting meals and snacks for children in accordance with childcare regulations, food safety standards, and program policies. This position works with meals provided by an approved food vendor and does not prepare meals from scratch on-site. The Food Handler ensures that food is served safely, accurately, and on schedule while maintaining a clean and sanitary kitchen and food service area.
Responsibilities:
Receive and inspect food deliveries from the approved vendor for accuracy, quality, and proper temperatures. Store food items according to food safety guidelines and manufacturer recommendations and plating as needed. Serve meals and snacks to classrooms according to established schedules and meal patterns. Ensure children with food allergies, dietary restrictions, or special meal accommodations receive the correct meals. Maintain daily food temperature logs and required food service documentation. Follow all health, safety, sanitation, and infection control procedures. Clean and sanitize food preparation areas, kitchen equipment, refrigerators, tables, and serving utensils. Wash dishes, utensils, and food service equipment as required. Monitor food inventory and notify administration when supplies are low. Properly label, store, and dispose of food items according to program policies. Assist with CACFP or other food program recordkeeping, if applicable. Maintain compliance with local health department, licensing, and childcare regulations. Work cooperatively with teachers, administration, and food vendors to ensure timely meal service. Attend required trainings related to food safety and childcare regulations.
Qualifications
Food Handler Certificate. Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices. Ability to lift and carry food deliveries and kitchen supplies.Ability to work independently and maintain a clean, organized workspace. Experience in childcare, school, or institutional food service preferred.
Pay: From $17.00 per hour
