Fairwood United Methodist Church: Youth Director Job Description
Part Time 15 hours weekly
Pay Rate: $15,000 annually
Position Summary
The Youth Director provides spiritual leadership, program development, and relational guidance for students in 6th–12th grade, building a vibrant, sustainable youth ministry rooted in the values and mission of the United Methodist Church. This role focuses on creating consistent programming, nurturing faith formation, and supporting youth and their families as they grow in discipleship.
Key Responsibilities
Program Development — Design, launch, and maintain a comprehensive youth ministry that includes weekly gatherings, small groups, service opportunities, and special events. Build a long‑term structure that can grow with the church.
Spiritual Formation — Teach Wesleyan‑based lessons that are in line with the theology of the United Methodist Church and reflect the beliefs and actions of the congregation, lead discussions, and model Christian discipleship. Encourage youth to explore Scripture, prayer, worship, service, and witness.
Consistent Weekly Programming and Special Events — Plan and lead regular youth group meetings, Sunday morning engagement, and age‑appropriate faith‑building activities. Organize retreats, mission trips, service projects, and fellowship events that deepen faith and build community.
Relationship Building — Foster authentic, supportive relationships with youth and their families. Provide mentorship, encouragement, and pastoral care as appropriate.
Volunteer Leadership — Recruit, train, and support adult volunteers to ensure safe, effective, and sustainable ministry operations.
Communication & Coordination — Maintain clear communication with parents, staff, and the congregation. Use email, social media, and church platforms to keep families informed.
Safe Sanctuaries Compliance — Ensure all programming follows UMC Safe Sanctuaries policies, including volunteer screening, training, and supervision standards.
Collaboration — Work closely with the pastor, staff, and ministry teams to integrate youth into the broader life of the church.
Qualifications
Applicants must be 21 years of age or older and must be able to pass a background check
Passion for youth discipleship and the mission of the United Methodist Church
Experience working with youth in ministry, education, or related fields
Strong organizational and communication skills
Ability to recruit, equip, and lead volunteers
Commitment to Safe Sanctuaries and healthy ministry boundaries
Creativity, initiative, and a heart for building something long‑lasting
Work Schedule & Reporting
The Youth Director reports to the Senior Pastor and Staff‑Parish Relations Committee, with a schedule that includes weekly programming, Sunday responsibilities, and special events. Some evening and weekend work is expected. This position is expected to require 15 hours a week, with some extra hours in the summer for youth camps, and retreats.

Establish a consistent weekly rhythm of youth gatherings
Build relationships with students and families
Recruit and train a core volunteer team
Develop a year‑long ministry calendar
Create a welcoming, safe, and spiritually rich environment for all youth
