Position Summary
The Medical Assistant in an internal medicine / family practice provides clinical and administrative support to physicians and healthcare professionals. This role is responsible for assisting with patient care, maintaining accurate medical records, and ensuring efficient daily operations while delivering high-quality patient service.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Duties
- Prepare patients for examinations by taking vital signs (height, weight, blood pressure, pulse, temperature, oxygen saturation)
- Record patient medical history, symptoms, and chief complaints in the electronic health record (EHR)
- Assist physicians with examinations and minor procedures
- Assist physicians with scribing during exam
- Administer medications and injections as directed by the provider
- Perform basic lab procedures such as blood draws, EKGs, urinalysis, and specimen collection
- Ensure billing and coding is entered and accurate for procedures performed
- Clean and sterilize medical instruments and exam rooms
- Manage medical inventory
- Manage sample medication
- Educate patients on treatment plans, medications, and preventive care
Administrative Duties
- Schedule, confirm, and manage patient appointments
- Answer phone calls, handle patient inquiries, and route messages appropriately
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records in the EHR system including coding and ICD-10 coding
- Process prescription refill requests under provider supervision
- Manage incoming and outgoing medical documents, referrals, and lab orders
Patient Care & Coordination
- Escort patients to exam rooms and ensure comfort and privacy
- Assist with care coordination, including referrals to specialists and follow-ups
- Communicate test results and provider instructions to patients
- Verify patient demographic and insurance information
Compliance & Safety
- Follow all HIPAA regulations and maintain patient confidentiality
- Adhere to infection control and safety protocols
- Ensure proper documentation and compliance with clinical standards
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred
- Prior experience in a medical office, preferably in internal medicine, is a plus

- Ability to lift and move light medical equipment or supplies
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $14.00 - $19.00 per year
