Plant Technician – Gravel, Aggregate & Concrete Plant
Location: Kenvil, New Jersey / Nationwide Travel
Travel: Approximately 50% Local / 50% Nationwide
Rotation: 6 Weeks On / 1 Paid Week Off
Per Diem: Provided for qualifying travel assignments
We are seeking a Plant Technician to support the safe and efficient operation of gravel, aggregate, and concrete production facilities. This position is responsible for operating, inspecting, maintaining, and troubleshooting plant equipment used in the processing, conveying, screening, crushing, batching, and handling of aggregate and concrete materials.
This is a travel-based position, with approximately 50% of the year working locally at our Kenvil, New Jersey location and 50% traveling nationally to support projects and plant operations throughout the United States.
Travel assignments generally follow a 6-weeks-on / 1-paid-week-off rotation. Per diem is provided for qualifying travel assignments.
The ideal candidate has hands-on experience working around gravel pits, aggregate processing plants, ready-mix concrete plants, crushing and screening equipment, conveyors, and heavy equipment. This position requires strong mechanical aptitude, attention to safety, and the flexibility to travel for extended assignments.

Key Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor gravel, aggregate, and concrete plant equipment to maintain safe and efficient production.
- Operate crushers, screens, conveyors, feeders, hoppers, bins, and related material-processing equipment.
- Assist with the operation of concrete batching and material-handling systems.
- Perform daily inspections of plant equipment and identify mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, or operational issues.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance, including greasing, lubrication, belt inspections, adjustments, and replacement of wear components.
- Inspect and maintain conveyor belts, rollers, pulleys, bearings, screens, guards, and chutes.
- Monitor material flow and make adjustments to prevent plugging, spillage, equipment damage, and production delays.
- Assist with troubleshooting and repairing plant equipment and mechanical systems.
- Perform basic welding, cutting, fabrication, and mechanical repairs as needed.
- Operate loaders, skid steers, forklifts, excavators, and other heavy equipment as required.
- Load and move sand, stone, gravel, aggregate, and other materials throughout the facility.
- Maintain stockpiles and keep plant production areas organized.
- Assist with plant mobilization, setup, startup, shutdown, and demobilization on local and nationwide projects.
- Perform housekeeping and remove material buildup from plant equipment, walkways, platforms, and work areas.
- Follow Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures before performing maintenance or repairs.
- Complete required equipment inspection forms, maintenance records, and production documentation.
- Follow all applicable OSHA, MSHA, environmental, and site-specific safety requirements.
- Communicate equipment problems and production issues to supervisors and maintenance personnel.
- Work safely around mobile equipment, conveyors, rotating equipment, elevated work areas, and heavy industrial machinery.
- Travel nationally for extended project assignments as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Previous experience working in a gravel pit, quarry, aggregate plant, concrete plant, crushing operation, or similar heavy industrial environment.
- Experience operating or working around crushers, screens, conveyors, and material-handling systems.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to identify basic equipment problems.
- Experience performing routine equipment maintenance and inspections.
- Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment.
- Ability to work safely around moving and rotating equipment.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a production and maintenance team.
- Ability and willingness to travel approximately 50% of the year nationally.
- Ability to work extended travel assignments of approximately six consecutive weeks.
- Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with aggregate crushing and screening plants.
- Experience with ready-mix or concrete batching plants.
- Experience operating front-end loaders, skid steers, excavators, and forklifts.
- Experience with conveyor maintenance, including belts, rollers, bearings, pulleys, and tracking.
- Basic welding, cutting, and fabrication experience.
- Experience troubleshooting mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, or electrical equipment.
- Knowledge of Lockout/Tagout and industrial equipment safety.
- MSHA or OSHA training/experience preferred.
- Previous experience performing preventive maintenance in a heavy industrial environment.
What Does It Take to Be a Plant Technician?
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Previous aggregate, gravel, concrete, construction, or heavy industrial experience preferred.
- Strong mechanical and troubleshooting skills.
- Willingness and ability to maintain a 50% local / 50% nationwide travel schedule.
- Ability to work outdoors in heat, cold, rain, dust, and varying weather conditions.
- Comfortable working around dust, noise, heavy equipment, and moving machinery.
- Ability to climb ladders and stairs and work on elevated plant platforms.
- Ability to bend, kneel, squat, push, pull, and perform repetitive physical tasks.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work overtime, weekends, extended shifts, and travel rotations when required.
- Must maintain a strong commitment to workplace safety and environmental compliance.
Position Summary
The Plant Technician plays an important role in keeping gravel, aggregate, and concrete production operations running safely and efficiently. This position combines plant operations, heavy equipment operation, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, travel, and general plant support.
The position will spend approximately 50% of the year locally in Kenvil, New Jersey and 50% traveling nationally, generally following a 6-weeks-on / 1-paid-week-off rotation, with per diem provided for qualifying travel assignments.
Successful candidates will be mechanically inclined, safety-focused, dependable, willing to travel, and comfortable working hands-on in gravel, aggregate, crushing, screening, and concrete plant environments.
