Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) – Afternoon/Evening Shift

We are a busy 24-hour emergency and day practice looking for an experienced Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) to join our team.
This full-time position is primarily later afternoon/evening shifts (typically 2:00 PM–12:30 AM), although one shift each week may be scheduled 12:00 PM–10:30 PM.
Our caseload is a mix of scheduled appointments, hospitalized patient care, walk-in emergencies, and surgery. As an RVT, you'll play an integral role in patient assessment, anesthesia, nursing care, client communication, and overall case management while working closely with our veterinarians and technical team. We're looking for someone who is organized, efficient, takes initiative, and enjoys helping keep the hospital running smoothly.
Position Details
- Full-time, 10-hour shifts
- Primarily afternoon/evening shifts (typically 2:00 PM–12:30 AM), with one shift each week that may be scheduled 12:00 PM–10:30 PM. Shift times may vary occasionally based on hospital needs.
- Weekends and holidays required
- Fast-paced GP + ER setting
Responsibilities
- Perform patient assessments, obtain patient histories, TPRs, and communicate findings to the veterinarian.
- Perform advanced technical procedures including venipuncture, IV catheter placement, laboratory procedures, radiography, medication administration, blood collection, and patient nursing care.
- Monitor anesthesia throughout procedures, including patient preparation, intubation, ECG, capnography, blood pressure monitoring, temperature monitoring, anesthetic depth, recovery, and recognition of anesthetic complications.
- Assist with triage of incoming emergency cases and prioritize patient care based on medical urgency.
- Provide advanced nursing care to hospitalized patients, including IV fluid therapy, CRIs, blood transfusions, critical patient monitoring, and ongoing treatments.
- Assist with emergency and soft tissue surgeries, including patient preparation, surgical setup, anesthesia support, and perioperative nursing care for procedures such as GDVs, splenectomies, cystotomies, foreign body surgeries, exploratory laparotomies, and other emergency procedures.
- Participate in the stabilization and management of critically ill patients, including DKA, toxin exposures, respiratory distress, trauma, and other emergency cases.
- Exercise sound judgment, prioritize multiple patients, and adapt quickly as case priorities change throughout the shift.
- Provide compassionate patient care while delivering exceptional client service and communication.
- Help maintain efficient hospital workflow through strong communication, organization, and teamwork.
- Accurately document treatments, diagnostics, procedures, and charges in the medical record.
What We’re Looking For
- Current California RVT license (required)
- Minimum 2 years of experience; ER, urgent care, or specialty experience preferred
- Strong technical skills including venipuncture, IV catheter placement, anesthesia monitoring, patient intubation, laboratory procedures, radiography, medication administration, and patient nursing care
- Experience with emergency case management, CRIs, blood transfusions, and perioperative nursing is highly desirable
- Ability to think critically, prioritize multiple patients, and remain composed in a fast-paced emergency environment
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Positive, team-oriented attitude with excellent initiative and accountability
- Reliable with excellent attendance
Experience That’s a Plus
- ER, specialty, or urgent care experience
- Experience with Pulse (or similar software)
- RECOVER CPR certification
- Bilingual
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift and restrain patients over 40 lbs (with assistance)
- Ability to stand and work on your feet for extended periods
- Comfortable working in a clinical environment that may include exposure to blood, bodily fluids, odors, emergency situations, and surgical procedures
