Grand View Care Center
Grand View Care Center in Blair, WI is seeking a full-time Maintenance Assistant. We prioritize quality over quantity in our facility repairs and foster a professional, respectful work environment. The role requires on-call availability for emergencies to ensure our residents' home remains safe and comfortable.
Position Overview
At Grand View Care Center, we believe that a safe, well-maintained environment is the foundation of exceptional resident care. We are looking for a dedicated and skilled Full-Time Maintenance Assistant to join our team.
This role isn't just about completing a to-do list; we are dedicated to quality over quantity—ensuring every repair, preventive maintenance task, and upgrade is done correctly, safely, and to the highest standard. You will work alongside our maintenance director to preserve a comfortable, homelike atmosphere for our residents.
Key Responsibilities
- Preventive & Routine Maintenance: Perform regular building and equipment inspections, complete routine repairs, and maintain facility grounds and structural systems.
- Quality Workmanship: Prioritize precision and safety in all carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC tasks over simply rushing through repairs.
- Resident Safety: Ensure all work areas and life safety systems comply with federal, state, and local nursing home regulations.
- On-Call Rotation: Provide after-hours on-call availability to respond to facility emergencies promptly and professionally.
- Team Collaboration: Communicate clearly with nursing, culinary, and administrative departments to minimize disruption to resident care.
Professionalism & Workplace Culture
We hold ourselves to a high standard of professionalism in the workplace. As a Maintenance Assistant, you will often be working directly in residents' living spaces and interacting with their families. We expect:
- A respectful, compassionate demeanor toward all residents, visitors, and staff members.
- A proactive, problem-solving mindset.
- Strict adherence to resident privacy, dignity, and facility infection-control policies.
- A commitment to maintaining a clean, organized, and professional maintenance shop and workspace.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in building maintenance, general trades, or a similar facility operations role (long-term care or healthcare setting experience is a plus).
- Life Safety Knowledge: Understanding of NFPA Life Safety Code regulations for healthcare facilities is highly ideal, though not strictly required (we will train the right candidate).
- Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
- Ability to lift heavy equipment, climb ladders, and maneuver in varying environmental conditions.
- Reliable, quick-thinking, and able to remain calm and professional during maintenance emergencies.
