Description:
Provides specialized care to patients with kidney failure by administering hemodialysis or peritoneal treatments, usually under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN). They monitor vital signs, assess vascular access sites (fistulas/grafts), operate dialysis equipment, and document patient, treatment, and condition changes.
Key Responsibilities and Duties

Role under direct RN supervision

Provide nursing care throughout patient assessment, initiation and discontinuation of treatment; monitor during and assess following treatment; and obtain necessary lab work

Assess and monitor patient’s access with intervention as appropriate

Follow the clinic’s infection control policies and procedures
-
Understand concepts of water treatment and effects on patient care

Communicate effectively to keep charge nurse aware of patient condition changes
-
Know and follow clinic risk management program
-
Administer and educate patient regarding medications, within scope of practice
-
Attend required training and staff meetings to maintain and expand skills
Requirements:
Must be able to float between clinics (West Burlington, Fort Madison, Keokuk, Mount Pleasant, Fairfax). Will be reimbursed for mileage. Must also complete a paid 12 weeks orientation.

Education/Training:

Accredited practical nursing program completion

Dialysis experience preferred, not required

Current LPN license

Current CPR/AED certification
