At Lexington Maintenance, operates a tandem truck to haul materials to and from the job site. Operates a truck to pick up materials from vendors and take to job site or stock pile at section shed. Performs preventive maintenance, and keeps the truck clean. Maintains the necessary records as required. Erects and replaces official traffic control signs on Departments right-of-way. All sign erections must be in conformance with the SC MUTCD (SC Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices). Checks assigned areas of Lexington County daily and redirects signs as necessary to ensure they are plumb and the general appearance is good. Keeps detailed records of days work, missing, damaged, and new signs either on log sheet or I-Pad (Missing, damaged and new signs). Performs a daily pre-check of the truck to ensure it is safe to operate. Ensures and verifies daily that an adequate stock of signs, posts, and materials are on the sign truck that will be needed for routine work. Sets up traffic control for road closures and work zones. Sets up includes signs, barricades, cones, or barrels to warn motorists of hazards. Operates and maintains a small hand machine to place needed pavement markings for small jobs. Installs markings such as stop bars, railroad markings and arrows when needed. Operates a small paint machine to paint islands, concrete medians, and other small jobs. Operates tandem dump trucks during emergencies and hazardous weather operations. May be required to work extended hours or 12 hour shifts.
Six (6) months of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.
The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping and physically manipulating objects of varying size, shape, weight, and material. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. This position requires walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, and working in close proximity to motoring traffic and natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies. Frequently exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions, noise, and oil or grease on a daily basis.
May be required to work overtime, nighttime, and/or weekends during hazardous weather or emergencies.
