Event Coordinator
Part-time | $22-25/hour
At Denver Book Society, we believe in the power and joy of books. Our bookstore exists to help every customer find a book they love and to create a warm, personal experience around reading. We're also a café and bar, an ice cream spot, event space, and aspiring community hub.
We're looking for an Events Coordinator who is excited to build our calendar and community. We are seeking someone who brings their own ideas and excitement to our programming, sustains our partnerships, and grows private rentals into a bigger part of our business.
Responsibilities
- Design and lead original events—game nights, author talks, book clubs, writers' circles, live music, café/bar tie-ins, and new formats of your own
- Own each event end-to-end: concept, budget, logistics, promotion, and day-of execution
- Grow private rentals as a revenue stream: pricing, packages, outreach, and booking management
- Design promotional materials and drive social/email promotion
- Track event and rental budgets
- Build relationships with local authors, artists, and rental clients
- Ensure events and rentals are welcoming and accessible—in venue accommodations and programming choices
- Maintain the events calendar, on our website and Eventbrite
Requirements
- Event planning experience, ideally originating and executing your own concepts
- Entrepreneurial instinct for spotting and pitching new revenue opportunities like private rentals
- Strong organizational skills and comfort juggling multiple deadlines
- Excellent written and verbal communication, especially for pitching ideas to stakeholders and clients
- Social media/email marketing experience; design skills in Canva or InDesign
- A genuine love of books and community-building, with an eye for inclusive, accessible events
- Flexible schedule, including weekends
- Familiarity with Denver's literary/arts scene is a plus
Why Join Us
- Real creative ownership in shaping your own event vision, not someone else's calendar
- A growing, passionate literary community
- Flexible mix of in-person and remote work
- Direct impact on the store's growth
To apply: Send your resume and a cover letter explaining (1) what you’d bring to the team and (2) one idea for an event you'd love to develop to our email: [thedenverbooksociety] at [gmail.com]
