Pelican Chemicals, Inc. is a specialty chemical manufacturer serving aviation, municipal and industrial customers across the United States. Pelican produces runway and pavement deicers, water-treatment chemicals and industrial process chemicals.
We are hiring the person who will take day-to-day ownership of our Jessup facility. This is not a desk-based plant-manager job. You will personally manufacture and test liquid products, receive bulk and palletized raw materials, load bulk trucks and palletized products, maintain the facility, and direct one additional operator. The role reports to Pelican's National Operations Manager.
What you will own and do
- Plan the day’s production, receiving, loadout and site priorities with the Operations Manager.
- Manage and execute implementation projects on-site.
- Personally operate and monitor liquid-deicer production processes and follow SOPs and batch records.
- Lead, train and check the work of one operator across overlapping or offset coverage.
- Perform QA sampling and testing, document results and hold/escalate off-spec or unverified product.
- Receive bulk liquid and palletized raw materials; verify identity, quantities, documents, condition and storage capacity.
- Load bulk liquid tankers and palletized finished products safely and accurately.
- Operate forklifts and authorized pumps, hoses, valves and material-handling equipment after qualification.
- Maintain accurate batch, tank, inventory, receiving, shipping and shift-handoff records.
- Keep the plant, warehouse, yard and loading areas clean, organized and inspection-ready.
- Perform authorized routine maintenance and escalate equipment or facility work beyond your training and authority.
- Communicate early when staffing, material, equipment, QA or freight issues threaten a commitment.
What we require
- At least three years of industrial production, chemical processing, liquid-terminal, warehouse or similar plant experience.
- At least two years of forklift operating experience.
- Experience leading a shift, training coworkers, assigning work or owning an operating area.
- A strong safety record and the judgment to stop work when conditions are unsafe or unclear.
- Ability to follow detailed written procedures and complete accurate production and shipping records.
- Ability to safely lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Ability to work a variable full-time schedule driven by production and shipping needs, including offset/split-shift coverage, early starts, evenings and peak-season overtime as scheduled.
Experience that is especially valuable
Chemical manufacturing or liquid blending; bulk tanker receiving/loadout; pumps, tanks, hoses and valves; OSHA safety programs; QA testing; supersacks, totes and palletized freight; inventory control; plumbing, welding, mechanical repair, general construction or light electrical work.
Pay: $30.00 - $38.00 per hour
