Payroll Processor

We are seeking a mission-driven employee with a desire to use their skills, knowledge, and proven experience in service to the Church. The Payroll Processor performs and manages the payroll and reporting functions for the Catholic Pastoral Staff, small parishes (SPP), and diocesan priests. This position is the primary resource to parishes regarding standardized payroll procedures, controls and software while serving as a trainer for business managers at diocesan locations. The processor assists priests with financial questions and acts as an intermediary between parish business managers and the payroll software vendor as appropriate.

This is a full-time on-site position working a 4 day work week.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and process payroll for the Catholic Pastoral Center employees, seminarians, priests, retired priests, and employees of small parishes.
- Collect data from appropriate sources and make changes as needed.
- Identify discrepancies and reconcile information prior to processing payroll.
- Prepare payroll entry for journals and general ledger input. Prepare periodic payroll reports.
- Prepare, report, and communicate garnishments to the courts and the employee. Process tax documentation as needed.
- Maintain employee files. Ensure employee payroll deductions are remitted in a timely manner.
- Invoice charges and fees associated with small parish payroll.
- Review priest expense allowance in accordance with policy.
- Working with the Office for Human Resources, update and submit payroll deductions and earnings for employee benefits programs including contributions to 403(b) and medical savings accounts. Provide reporting and documentation for unemployment and worker’s compensation claims.
- Provide training and assist parishes and schools with parish financial, statistical, and payroll reporting.
- Train entities on diocesan standards for parish reporting.
- Analyze parish payroll data along with financial and statistical data.
- Prepare and present at priest orientation meetings as needed regarding priest pay and taxes.
- Identify possible improvements and attend meetings related to the payroll process.
- Answer employee and supervisor questions regarding payroll data and system.
o Process and issue tax information for employees on appropriate cycle.
- Create and maintain policies and instructions for parishes related to payroll processes.
- Prepare paperwork related to the annual Diocesan financial audit.
What We’re Looking For
· Practicing Catholic in full communion with the teachings of the Church.
· Bachelor’s Degree in related field; Proven experience in payroll processing, data entry, and basic accounting.
Ability to manage multiple ongoing projects and recurring deadlines.
· Excellent organizational and recordkeeping skills.
· Proficient knowledge and experience with payroll software and Microsoft Office products.
· Experience in teaching, coaching, and/or training.
· High degree of accuracy and confidentiality
· Knowledge of basic accounting principles and bookkeeping techniques.
· Self-starter; work with minimal supervision
· Able to interpret and analyze data to provide recommendations for improvements to job processes.
· Willingness to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
