Texas Regenerative Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Institute (TROSMI) is a physician-led orthopedic and sports medicine clinic focused on helping patients recover from musculoskeletal injuries, improve function, and avoid surgery whenever clinically appropriate.
Our practice specializes in non-surgical orthopedic care, regenerative medicine, ultrasound-guided procedures, platelet-rich plasma therapy, shockwave therapy, fracture care, and other treatments designed to support healing and restore mobility.
We are seeking a knowledgeable and patient-focused Licensed Athletic Trainer, Certified Athletic Trainer, or Physical Therapist Assistant to serve as a key member of our clinical team.
Position Summary
The Regenerative Medicine Clinical Specialist will provide direct clinical support to the physician and will be the primary team member responsible for administering shockwave therapy treatments under the physician’s direction and established clinic protocols.
This individual will also assist with other patient therapies, prepare patients for examinations and procedures, reinforce treatment instructions, answer patient phone calls, document clinical information, and help coordinate ongoing patient care.
The position requires a strong understanding of anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, musculoskeletal conditions, and orthopedic diagnoses. The ideal candidate should also be interested in regenerative medicine and the use of non-surgical treatments to help patients reduce pain, improve function, and potentially avoid surgery.
The physician will generally perform the primary physical examination and establish the diagnosis and treatment plan. Depending on the candidate’s credentials, experience, applicable scope of practice, and physician direction, the employee may assist with preliminary clinical assessments and gather relevant examination information before the physician evaluates the patient.
Primary Responsibilities
Shockwave Therapy
- Serve as the clinic’s primary provider of physician-directed shockwave therapy treatments.
- Prepare patients, treatment rooms, equipment, and supplies before each treatment.
- Review the physician’s treatment plan and confirm the appropriate treatment area and protocol.
- Explain the treatment process and expected experience to patients.
- Administer shockwave therapy in accordance with physician orders, clinic protocols, equipment guidelines, and applicable scope-of-practice requirements.
- Monitor patient comfort, tolerance, and response during treatment.
- Recognize symptoms or responses that require treatment modification or physician review.
- Document treatment settings, treatment area, patient tolerance, response, and other required clinical information.
- Reinforce post-treatment instructions, activity recommendations, and follow-up plans established by the physician.
- Maintain, clean, inspect, and organize shockwave therapy equipment and supplies.
- Help track treatment series, missed appointments, patient progress, and upcoming treatment needs.
Regenerative Medicine and Patient Therapies
- Develop a working understanding of regenerative medicine, orthobiologics, platelet-rich plasma therapy, and other non-surgical orthopedic treatments offered by TROSMI.
- Help patients understand the general purpose of their recommended treatment and how it fits into their overall care plan.
- Reinforce physician-provided education regarding healing, activity modification, rehabilitation, and recovery expectations.
- Assist with other physician-directed patient therapies based on training, licensure, competency, and applicable scope of practice.
- Prepare patients and clinical areas for PRP procedures, ultrasound-guided injections, fracture care, bracing, and other treatments.
- Assist the physician during procedures as directed.
- Review and reinforce pre-procedure and post-procedure instructions.
- Identify patient questions or concerns that require physician evaluation.
Clinical Support
- Prepare patients for physician examinations and procedures.
- Obtain and document relevant histories, including symptoms, mechanism of injury, functional limitations, prior treatment, and response to treatment.
- Review available imaging reports, prior records, and treatment information in preparation for the physician visit.
- Organize and present relevant patient information to the physician.
- Assist with preliminary musculoskeletal assessments when directed and when permitted by the employee’s education, licensure, supervision requirements, and professional scope.
- Help identify changes in symptoms, function, or treatment response that should be brought to the physician’s attention.
- Apply braces, slings, splints, crutches, or other durable medical equipment when trained, directed, and permitted.
- Provide patients with home-care, activity, equipment, and treatment instructions established by the physician.
- Support efficient rooming, patient flow, room turnover, and clinical communication.
The physician will remain responsible for establishing the diagnosis, performing the definitive medical examination, determining medical necessity, and developing the treatment plan.
Patient Communication and Telephone Support
- Answer incoming patient phone calls and respond to clinical questions within established protocols.
- Gather relevant information from patients and determine when a message requires physician or nursing review.
- Explain appointment preparation, treatment logistics, general recovery expectations, and previously established physician instructions.
- Contact patients regarding treatment scheduling, follow-up care, outstanding imaging, procedure instructions, or changes in the care plan.
- Return patient calls promptly and document all clinically relevant communications.
- Communicate clearly while avoiding independent medical advice, diagnosis, or changes to the physician’s treatment plan.
- Help patients understand the steps involved in their care and what they should expect next.
- Escalate urgent symptoms, unexpected treatment responses, and clinical concerns to the physician.
Documentation and Care Coordination
- Accurately document patient histories, treatments, education, phone calls, progress, and follow-up instructions in the electronic medical record.
- Assist with tracking shockwave treatment series and other multi-visit treatment plans.
- Help coordinate imaging, referrals, physical therapy, durable medical equipment, procedures, and follow-up visits.
- Review incoming reports and route relevant clinical information to the physician.
- Help ensure that orders, treatment plans, and follow-up requirements are completed.
- Coordinate with front-office staff, medical assistants, billing staff, imaging facilities, therapy offices, and other healthcare professionals.
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical task lists.
Clinic Operations
- Prepare and turn over examination, treatment, and procedure rooms.
- Maintain treatment supplies, clinical equipment, braces, and durable medical equipment.
- Follow infection-control, patient-safety, cleaning, and equipment-maintenance protocols.
- Assist with maintaining efficient clinic flow and minimizing unnecessary patient delays.
- Support front-office and telephone responsibilities when needed.
- Participate in staff training, clinical workflow development, and process improvement.
- Perform other clinically appropriate duties based on credentials, training, clinic needs, and physician direction.
Required Clinical Knowledge
The successful candidate should demonstrate strong knowledge of:
- Musculoskeletal anatomy and physiology.
- Kinesiology and biomechanics.
- Common orthopedic and sports medicine diagnoses.
- Tendon, ligament, muscle, joint, bone, and nerve conditions.
- Acute injuries, chronic overuse conditions, osteoarthritis, tendinopathy, and other common sources of musculoskeletal pain.
- The relationship between anatomy, movement, symptoms, and functional limitations.
- Basic orthopedic examination concepts and special tests.
- General rehabilitation principles and activity progression.
- Non-surgical treatment approaches for orthopedic conditions.
- The role of shockwave therapy and regenerative medicine within a broader physician-directed treatment plan.
Required Qualifications
Candidates must qualify through at least one of the following pathways:
Athletic Trainer Pathway
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree from an accredited athletic training program.
- Current Board of Certification credential as a Certified Athletic Trainer, when applicable.
- Current Texas Athletic Trainer license or eligibility to obtain the required license before employment.
Physical Therapist Assistant Pathway
- Associate degree from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program.
- Current Texas Physical Therapist Assistant license or eligibility to obtain licensure before employment.
- Ability to work under all applicable supervision, delegation, documentation, and scope-of-practice requirements.
Requirements for All Candidates
- Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, and musculoskeletal conditions.
- Interest in regenerative medicine and non-surgical orthopedic treatment.
- Ability and willingness to become highly proficient in shockwave therapy.
- Strong patient education and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to follow physician orders and standardized treatment protocols precisely.
- Ability to recognize clinical concerns and promptly escalate them to the physician.
- Strong documentation, organization, and follow-through.
- Professional telephone communication skills.
- Ability to explain clinical information in language patients can understand.
- Comfortable working with patients experiencing pain, mobility limitations, and anxiety regarding surgery or procedures.
- Current CPR/BLS certification or ability to obtain certification before employment.
- Comfortable using electronic medical records and learning new clinical technology.
Preferred Qualifications
- Two or more years of experience in sports medicine, orthopedics, rehabilitation, physical therapy, or a musculoskeletal clinic.
- Experience administering shockwave therapy or similar therapeutic modalities.
- Experience working directly with an orthopedic or sports medicine physician.
- Experience assisting with injections, PRP procedures, ultrasound-guided procedures, or regenerative medicine treatments.
- Familiarity with orthopedic imaging terminology and reports.
- Experience with bracing, splinting, crutch fitting, or durable medical equipment.
- Experience educating patients regarding injuries, treatment plans, rehabilitation, and activity modification.
- Experience handling patient phone calls and clinical messages.
- Experience with eClinicalWorks or a comparable electronic medical record.
- Bilingual English and Spanish communication skills are beneficial but not required.

Schedule and Compensation
- Full-time, clinic-based position.
- Primarily weekday hours based on clinic operations and patient scheduling.
- Compensation will be based on professional credentials, orthopedic knowledge, relevant experience, and demonstrated clinical capabilities.
