Position Overview
We are seeking a passionate, joyful, and visionary full-time Private Homeschool Educator to lead a deeply integrated, multi-sensory educational program for two young learners (ages 6 and 7).
At the intersection of heart, mind, and movement, our educational philosophy bridges the artistic beauty, seasonal rhythms, and aesthetic sensibilities of Waldorf with the child-led nature inquiry of Oak Meadow. This inquiry is paired with the proven academic rigor of Orton-Gillingham Structured Literacy, Math in Focus (Singapore Math), and NYS Next Generation Learning Standards. Embedded with Occupational Therapy principles, Executive Functioning coaching, and Social-Emotional Learning, our approach honors every child’s unique developmental profile through hands-on project-based learning, naturalist studies, culinary arts, and real-world travel explorations.
This unique bi-coastal position offers an extraordinary teaching environment. The academic year begins in New York for the month of September (split between NYC and Southold, Long Island), transitions to California from October through December, and continues as a bi-coastal experience between NYC and California through 2027. Full private housing, transportation, travel expenses, educational materials, and daily meals during travel blocks are provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Interdisciplinary Curriculum Delivery: Deliver explicit, differentiated instruction across all core academic domains, including structured literacy, conceptual mathematics (Singapore Math/CPA model), history, geography, and natural sciences for a 1st/2nd grade split level.
- Specialist & Experiential Integration: Lead and weave specialist subjects into daily main lessons.
- Urban & Naturalist Residency Field Trips: Plan and execute meaningful experiential field excursions (e.g., "Junior Curator" trips to the American Museum of Natural History, architectural sketching at The Met, tide pool observations, botanical studies, and neighborhood mapping).
- Sensory & Executive Functioning Support: Seamlessly integrate Occupational Therapy principles and Executive Functioning/Social-Emotional coaching into daily academic transitions and learning stations.
- Collaborative Teamwork & Communication: Work in close, daily alignment with the family and educational team to track developmental milestones, refine instructional units, maintain program continuity, and curate student portfolio work.
Candidate Qualifications
- Educator Mindset & Pedagogy: Demonstrated experience teaching early elementary students. Deep alignment with multi-sensory learning approaches, child-led inquiry, and experiential education.
- Adaptability & Travel Readiness: Enthusiastic about a bi-coastal lifestyle, highly organized, and capable of maintaining structured educational rhythms across diverse environments (NYC urban setting, Southold coastal nature, and California residency).
- Personal Attributes: High energy, warmth, creativity, flexibility, excellent communication skills, and a genuine passion for fostering independence, curiosity, and self-awareness in young children.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: Highly competitive base salary, proportional to experience and expertise.
- Accommodations & Travel: Fully covered private housing provided in NYC, Long Island, and/or California if needed. All professional travel expenses, flights, local transportation, and meals during travel blocks covered.
- Materials & Professional Support: Comprehensive budget provided for all curriculum materials, educational trips, art supplies, and specialized learning resources.
- Paid Time Off: 3 weeks paid time off aligned with family travel schedules and academic term breaks.
