Job Summary
The Immigration Attorney is responsible for representing clients in immigration matters while providing strategic legal guidance, client-centered advocacy, and exceptional legal representation throughout the immigration process.
The ideal candidate will have experience in at least one immigration practice area and will receive training and mentorship to expand their knowledge of additional immigration case types handled by the firm. Attorneys will collaborate with legal teams to provide comprehensive immigration services while developing expertise in multiple practice areas.
This role requires strong legal analysis, case strategy development, client counseling, legal writing, and advocacy before USCIS, EOIR Immigration Courts, ICE, and other government agencies when applicable.
Essential Responsibilities and DutiesClient Advocacy & Representation
- Develop strategic, thoughtful legal approaches to achieve favorable client outcomes.
- Represent clients in immigration matters, including, but not limited to:
- Removal Defense
- VAWA
- T Visas
- U Visas
- SIJS
- Asylum
- Family-Based Immigration
- Adjustment of Status
- Consular Processing
- Waivers
- Naturalization and Citizenship
- Humanitarian Relief
- Other immigration matters handled by the firm
- Conduct legal consultations and evaluate case eligibility.
- Prepare clients for USCIS interviews, immigration court hearings, and other legal proceedings.
- Provide ongoing legal counsel and strategic guidance throughout the lifecycle of each case.
- Communicate regularly with clients regarding case progress, expectations, risks, and next steps.
- Maintain the highest standards of professional ethics, confidentiality, and client advocacy.
Case Preparation & Management
- Prepare, review, and submit petitions, applications, motions, briefs, declarations, legal memoranda, and supporting evidence.
- Conduct legal research and remain current on immigration laws, regulations, policies, and procedural changes.
- Develop case strategies tailored to each client's unique circumstances.
- Collaborate with legal assistants, paralegals, case managers, and fellow attorneys to ensure efficient case progression.
- Maintain accurate, well-organized case documentation within the firm's case management systems.
- Ensure compliance with all legal, regulatory, and firm requirements.
- Participate in attorney trainings and professional development initiatives to broaden immigration law expertise.
Team Collaboration & Leadership
- Partner with legal support teams to ensure timely case completion.
- Participate in case reviews and strategy discussions.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to legal support staff when necessary.
- Contribute to a collaborative, client-focused, and high-performing legal environment.
Required Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
- Active Bar License in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
- Strong legal writing, legal research, negotiation, and advocacy skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to learn and develop expertise across multiple immigration practice areas.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- 2+ years of immigration law experience.
- Demonstrated experience in at least one of the following practice areas:
- Removal Defense
- VAWA
- T Visa
- U Visa
- Family-Based Immigration
- Asylum
- Humanitarian Relief
- Employment-Based Immigration
- Experience appearing before USCIS and/or EOIR.
- Experience managing a diverse immigration caseload.
- Bilingual English and Spanish strongly preferred.
- Experience working within a high-volume immigration law practice.
- Ability to manage emotionally sensitive and complex client matters with empathy and professionalism.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Maintain ≥98% accuracy on all legal filings, petitions, applications, and supporting documentation.
- USCIS / Hearing Preparedness
100% of clients prepared at least 48 hours prior to scheduled interviews, hearings, or legal proceedings.
- Client Communication Responsiveness
Respond to 100% of client inquiries within 24 business hours.
Maintain an average client satisfaction score of ≥90%.
- Client Case Outcome Success Rate
Maintain a high percentage of favorable case outcomes aligned with departmental goals and practice area expectations.
- Spanish Proficiency Utilization
Provide Spanish-language support in ≥80% of eligible cases requiring bilingual assistance.
- Client Education & Empowerment
≥90% of clients report feeling informed regarding their case status, legal process, and next steps.
- Case Coordination & Collaboration
Complete and coordinate ≥95% of case-related tasks with legal support teams within established timelines.
Work Environment & Schedule
- Full-Time, Exempt Position.
- This is a full-time, exempt position that typically follows standard business hours, with the expectation of professional flexibility to meet client demands, court schedules, and case deadlines.
- In-person position available in San Antonio, Texas.
- Remote position available for qualified candidates residing in California.
- Occasional travel may be required for hearings, client meetings, community events, conferences, or firm-related activities.
