Seasonal Maintenance Worker

Position Summary
The Seasonal Maintenance Worker assists with the maintenance, repair, setup, and overall appearance of the fairgrounds before, during, and after the annual county fair and other events. This position performs a variety of manual labor tasks to ensure the fairgrounds remain safe, clean, and welcoming for exhibitors, vendors, guests, and staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform general grounds maintenance including mowing, trimming, edging, weed control, and debris removal.
- Assist with setting up and tearing down tables, chairs, tents, fencing, stages, livestock equipment, bleachers, and other event infrastructure.
- Clean and maintain buildings, barns, restrooms, sidewalks, parking lots, and common areas.
- Empty trash receptacles and assist with recycling and waste management throughout the fairgrounds.
- Operate and maintain equipment including lawn mowers, utility vehicles, tractors, pressure washers, string trimmers, leaf blowers, and other maintenance equipment.
- Perform basic repairs to buildings, fencing, gates, doors, plumbing fixtures, and other facilities as assigned.
- Assist with painting, landscaping, and general beautification projects.
- Monitor the fairgrounds for safety hazards and report maintenance issues promptly.
- Support exhibitors, vendors, event organizers, and fair staff with setup and operational needs.
- Respond to maintenance requests during events in a timely and professional manner.
- Follow all safety procedures while operating equipment and using tools.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support fairground operations.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong work ethic with dependable attendance.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Valid driver's license preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to frequently lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb ladders, and work on uneven terrain for extended periods.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work in varying weather conditions, including heat, rain, cold, and humidity.
- Ability to work around livestock, dust, noise, and outdoor environmental conditions.
Work Schedule
This is a seasonal position with hours varying based on operational needs.
Working Conditions
This position is primarily performed outdoors and requires frequent exposure to changing weather conditions, machinery, livestock, dust, noise, and large crowds during events. Employees must be able to work safely in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a positive and professional attitude.

- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when required.
- Operate equipment responsibly and report any equipment issues immediately.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Treat exhibitors, vendors, volunteers, coworkers, and the public with courtesy and professionalism.
- Represent the Fair in a positive and professional manner at all times.
