Science is seeking a motivated and experienced Veterinarian to join our team in Alameda, CA. This individual will provide veterinary care for all research animals and collaborate with the Attending Veterinarian, IACUC, principal investigators, and facilities staff to advance Science's in vivo research programs. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience working with research animals and will have strong technical skills with a hands-on approach.
Role Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive veterinary care for research animals
- Perform clinical examinations, diagnostics, treatments, anesthesia, and surgical procedures as needed
- Monitor animal health and welfare throughout research protocols
- Respond to medical emergencies and provide urgent care
- Work closely with the Attending Veterinarian to ensure compliance with animal welfare regulations
- Collaborate with the IACUC (Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee) on protocol review and compliance
- Ensure adherence to regulatory standards
- Maintain accurate medical records and documentation
- Rotating on call schedule for weekends and holidays
Key Qualifications:
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree from an accredited institution
- Active veterinary license in California or obtain licensure within 6 months of hire
- 3+ years of experience working in a research setting, preferably with neuro experience
- Knowledge of IACUC processes and experience in protocol authorship and review
- Strong technical and surgical skills with a hands-on approach
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for cross-functional collaboration
- Ability to work independently and make sound clinical decisions
- Flexibility to respond to emergencies and changing research needs
Salary/Pay Range:
Science is required under California law to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. We determine your level based on your interview performance and make an offer based on the indicated salary band. The base salary range for this full-time position is $180,000 – $225,000 per year + equity + benefits. Within the range, individual pay is determined by several factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Please keep in mind that the equity portion of the offer is not included in these numbers.
