Position Overview
S&S Paving & Construction is seeking an experienced and hands-on Paving Superintendent to oversee and manage asphalt paving operations. This role is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising field crews and subcontractors to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, on time, and within budget.
The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, deep knowledge of asphalt paving processes, and a commitment to maintaining high-quality workmanship and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and manage all aspects of paving operations, including grading, asphalt placement, rolling, and finishing
- Coordinate daily job site activities, crews, equipment, and materials
- Ensure projects are completed on schedule and within budget constraints
- Read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and contracts
- Maintain strict compliance with OSHA safety standards and company safety policies
- Conduct site inspections to ensure quality control and adherence to project specifications
- Communicate effectively with project managers, clients, vendors, and subcontractors
- Monitor production rates and adjust resources to meet project goals
- Resolve job site issues quickly and effectively to minimize delays
- Maintain accurate daily reports, documentation, and project records
- Train and mentor crew members to improve performance and skills
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5+ years of experience in asphalt paving or heavy civil construction, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role
- Strong knowledge of asphalt paving techniques, equipment, and materials
- Proven ability to lead and motivate crews in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to read blueprints and project specifications
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication and leadership abilities
- Valid driver’s license (CDL preferred but not required)
- Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, nights, and weekends as needed
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
- Ability to stand, walk, and climb for extended periods
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs when necessary
