Job Overview:
The ReACT Program Director position will be responsible to lead statewide youth tobacco prevention and advocacy efforts by supporting approximately 25 local coalitions, through youth and adult advisor engagement, and coordinating with state agencies and community organizations. This role will manage program operations, communications, digital media, statewide events, and grant reporting, while also guiding training opportunities and providing coaching to strengthen coalition capacity.
The ideal candidate for this position holds experience in community coalition building, youth engagement, public health or prevention programs, excellent communication and organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects independently. A background in prevention, health promotion, or related fields, along with proficiency in digital communications and stakeholder collaboration, is preferred.
The Program Director will work from home and utilize technology for most of their efforts, and
travel will be required to attend in-state coalition events, in-state conferences, and one national conference.
Note: This position is grant-funded, with a contract year ending June 30, 2027. Long-term employment will be available through Prevention Support Services if additional funding for this position is not available past the contract date.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Program Management and Liaison Activities:
- Serve as the primary statewide ReACT point of contact for adult coalition advisors, youth coalition members, community partners, and parents
- Maintain contact database for participants and adult advisors
- Plan and facilitate quarterly calls with coalition advisors
- Meet with Montana Tobacco Use Prevention Program state staff as required
- Grant reporting
- Youth Engagement and Advisor Support:
- Lead recruitment, training, and strategic coaching to ensure growth and effectiveness of local ReACT initiatives and coalitions
- Provide technical assistance on evidence-based strategies, best-fit activities, and best-practice media guidelines to adult advisors and ReACT participants
- Build the skills of participants and advisors to engage in advocacy and civic action
- Manage and distribute annual ReACT coalition stipends
- Travel within Montana to attend and support local ReACT coalition events
- Digital Platform Management and Media Campaigns:
- Provide technical assistance and maintenance for ReACT website, digital platforms, and execute recurring media and communications campaigns with the assistance of MTUPP staff
- Content creation and prescheduling on digital platforms
- Create and manage recognition of youth participants
- Organize and collaborate on annual events including Take Down Tobacco Day
- Create and share monthly newsletter
- Partnership Development and Event Coordination:
- Establish and maintain relationships with local, state, and national partners to further the mission of ReACT, such as the Truth Initiative, and the Montana Office of Public Instruction
- Assist in the development and planning of recurring events such as the annual ReACT Summit, MTUPP Statewide Summit, and Celebration on the Hill during legislative sessions
- Youth Policy Education and Civic Engagement
- Support adult advisors in coordinating opportunities for youth to research tobacco- and nicotine-related policies, and to learn how policies are created, systems work, and how community-level change occurs
- Prepare adult advisors and youth to hold educational meetings with local decision-makers to discuss nicotine-related issues in their communities
- Other duties as required by Prevention Support Services
Qualifications:
- Have a minimum of five (5) years of experience in community-based coalition work
- Preferred experience with youth coalitions
- Experience providing training, technical assistance, and/or consultation to community-based organizations and coalitions
- Preferred Associates’ or Bachelor’s degree in health science, community health, communication, public relations, human services, or a related field from an accredited college
- Must have six (6) hours of prevention ethics education within the past two years or obtain in the first available course offering
- Preferred prevention competency as achieved by any of the following:
- Experience in Strategic Prevention Framework or Public Health Model
- Prevention Specialist Certification
- Must live in Montana
Skills/Knowledge:
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, comfortable with public speaking, outreach, and presentations
- Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize deadlines to ensure goals and objectives are met
- Submit reports and deliverables in a timely manner
- Highly self-motivated and able to work unsupervised
- Knowledge of alternative ways to provide training or information via written, oral or visual media
- Ability to lead and coordinate efforts of a team of professional stakeholders, partners, co-workers, and contractors
- Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify problems, evaluate alternative solutions and implement effective strategies
- Personal or professional use of Facebook, YouTube, X (Twitter), Instagram, and other social media platforms
- Computer literacy skills and experience with Microsoft Suite, Google Workspace, email, and common office software
- Maintain all records in a professional and timely manner and in accordance with programmatic requirements
Pay: $52,000.00 - $60,320.00 per year
