Position Summary
The Warehouse Lead is responsible for coordinating daily warehouse activities within a millwork operation, including receiving, inventory control, material staging, order picking, shipping, and support for production teams. This role helps ensure all millwork materials are stored, handled, and moved safely, accurately, and efficiently. The Warehouse Lead provides hands-on leadership to warehouse team members, supports workflow priorities, and helps maintain a clean, organized, and safety-focused work environment.
Key Responsibilities
· Lead and coordinate daily warehouse activities, including receiving, put-away, replenishment, staging, picking, packing, loading, and shipping.
· Assign tasks to warehouse team members and monitor workflow to ensure orders and production needs are completed on time.
· Receive inbound millwork materials, verify quantities and product condition, document discrepancies, and route items to the proper storage or production locations.
· Stage and organize materials for production, delivery, customer pickup, or installation teams according to schedules and priorities.
· Maintain accurate inventory records through cycle counts, product verification, proper labeling, and timely communication of shortages, damages, or overages.
· Ensure finished goods and special-order materials are properly identified, protected, wrapped, stored, and staged to prevent damage.
· Safely operate forklifts, pallet jacks, carts, and other material-handling equipment in accordance with company procedures.
· Maintain warehouse organization, including aisles, racks, staging areas, loading zones, and outdoor storage areas where applicable.
· Support safe handling practices for a variety of millwork components.
· Train and coach warehouse employees on procedures, safety expectations, equipment use, product handling, and quality standards.
· Coordinate with production, project management, engineering, and accounting teams to resolve issues and support customer commitments.
· Help identify process improvements that increase accuracy, reduce damage, improve space utilization, and support efficient material flow.
· Assist with opening, closing, housekeeping, maintenance reporting, and other operational needs as assigned.
Required Qualifications
· High school diploma or equivalent required.
· Previous warehouse, logistics, distribution, manufacturing, building materials, lumber, or millwork experience preferred.
· Prior lead, trainer, or informal supervisory experience preferred.
· Forklift experience required; forklift certification preferred or ability to obtain certification.
· Ability to read work orders, pick tickets, product labels, delivery schedules, and inventory documents.
· Basic computer skills and experience using inventory, ERP, warehouse management, or shipping systems preferred.
· Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
· Ability to communicate clearly with warehouse staff, production employees, drivers, customers, vendors, and management.
· Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
Preferred Qualifications
· Knowledge of millwork products such as cabinetry components, hardware, and sheet goods.
· Understanding proper storage and handling methods for finished wood products and fragile or custom materials.
· Ability to prioritize urgent orders, special orders, production needs, and delivery schedules.
· Problem-solving skills related to inventory discrepancies, product damage, space constraints, and workflow interruptions.
· Ability to lead by example while working alongside the team in a hands-on warehouse environment.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
· Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, push, pull, and lift throughout the workday.
· Ability to lift and carry materials weighing up to [insert weight requirement] pounds, with assistance or equipment as required.
· Ability to safely handle long, bulky, or finished millwork products that may require team lifting.
· Work may be performed in warehouse, production, loading dock, and outdoor storage environments.
· Must follow all company safety policies and wear required personal protective equipment.
Work Schedule
This is a full-time position. Standard hours are Monday through Friday, with occasional overtime, early starts, or schedule adjustments based on production demands, delivery schedules, inventory needs, or business requirements.
