Job Overview
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Staff Accountant/Tax Preparer to join our CPA Firm. Duties
- Prepare and analyze journal entries, general ledger reconciliations, and account analyses to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, including invoice processing, payment scheduling, and collections management
- Conduct balance sheet reconciliations regularly to verify account balances align with supporting documentation
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing procedures, ensuring timely and accurate reporting in compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles)
- Support internal controls related to SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act) compliance and assist with audits by providing necessary documentation
- Utilize financial software such for data entry, reporting, and analysis
- Perform payroll management tasks using systems including payroll processing and related tax filings
- Contribute to budgeting processes through data analysis and variance reporting using Excel and other analytical tools
- Support special projects involving technical accounting issues or system upgrades to improve efficiency
- Prepare individual and small business tax returns
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA certification is a plus but not required
- Proven experience in accounting roles within corporate or governmental settings; public accounting background is advantageous
- Strong understanding of GAAP, SOX compliance, and governmental accounting standards
- Proficiency in Excel data analysis including pivot tables, formulas, and financial modeling techniques
- Excellent numeracy skills coupled with attention to detail for accurate data entry and account reconciliation
- Knowledge of payroll systems used for payroll processing and management tasks
- Ability to perform double-entry bookkeeping accurately while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Strong analytical skills for account analysis, budget review, credit analysis, and financial reporting
- Effective communication skills for collaborating across teams and supporting audit processes
