Position Summary
As Plant Foreman at Mar-Vel Tool, you will be responsible for the daily operation of the facility, ensuring safety, quality, production, and delivery goals are consistently met. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring a strong machining background and the ability to manage people, priorities, and workflow in a fast-paced job shop environment.
The successful candidate will lead by example on the shop floor, take ownership of production performance, and provide practical direction and accountability while supporting employees and meeting customer commitments.
Key Responsibilities
- Follow and enforce all company safety policies while maintaining a safe, clean, and organized work environment.
- Supervise machinists, toolmakers, operators, and other shop personnel.
- Plan, prioritize, and assign work based on customer requirements, available capacity, and delivery schedules.
- Maintain production schedules, monitor workflow, and address constraints that could affect delivery.
- Ensure completed work meets drawing requirements, dimensional tolerances, and company quality standards.
- Provide hands-on technical support and troubleshoot machining, tooling, fixturing, and operational challenges.
- Monitor labour requirements, equipment utilization, and shop capacity, escalating concerns when required.
- Support the training, development, performance, and accountability of shop employees.
- Communicate production status, capacity, priorities, and operational concerns to management.
- Maintain accurate production records and support continuous improvement initiatives throughout the shop.
Qualifications
- Minimum 10 years of experience in machining, Tool & Die, or a related manufacturing environment.
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in a supervisory or manufacturing leadership role.
- Strong machining background with experience using CNC mills, CNC lathes, manual boring mills, and other manual machine tools.
- Strong blueprint reading and GD&T interpretation skills.
- Strong understanding of tooling, fixturing, workholding, machining processes, and precision inspection.
- Experience in a custom machining, Tool & Die, or job shop environment.
- Ability to manage production schedules, labour resources, workflow, and competing priorities effectively.
- Experience with ERP, scheduling, or shop management systems is considered an asset.
- Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Ability to lead, motivate, develop, and hold a team accountable.
- Comfortable working in a hands-on, fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Strong organizational, communication, and time-management skills.

Pay: $35.00 - $45.00 per hour
