Duties
- Assist dentists during clinical procedures including restorative, endodontic, prosthodontic, oral surgery, and pediatric dentistry treatments.
- Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing dental instruments, setting up necessary supplies, and ensuring all equipment is functioning properly according to dental sterilization procedures.
- Take and develop dental radiographs (X-ray), including digital imaging and 3D scans, while adhering to dental x-ray safety protocols.
- Manage patient records using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems such as Dentrix or Epic, ensuring accurate documentation of medical history, vital signs, and treatment notes in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Perform chairside assisting with four-handed dentistry techniques to optimize workflow efficiency and patient comfort.
- Process dental instruments following infection prevention management guidelines to maintain aseptic techniques and clinical confidentiality policies.
- Support administrative tasks such as greeting patients as a dental receptionist, scheduling appointments, verifying insurance information, and managing medical documentation and coding.
- Educate patients on oral health care practices and post-treatment instructions using clear dental terminology.
- Maintain a clean and organized clinical environment by adhering to infection control standards related to dental sterilization procedures and healthcare infection prevention protocols.
- Assist with the use of advanced technology including intraoral cameras, digital scanners (such as 3D scanners), and other diagnostic tools to enhance patient care.
Experience
- Prior experience working in a general dentistry or pediatric dentistry practice is necessary.
- Proven proficiency with EMR systems like Dentrix or Epic is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of dental terminology, medical terminology, and medical coding practices is essential for accurate documentation.
- Hands-on experience with dental x-ray procedures, oral surgery support, endodontics, prosthodontics, and implant procedures is advantageous.
- Familiarity with infection control standards including aseptic technique and healthcare infection prevention is required.
- Strong understanding of anatomy knowledge related to oral structures and medical imaging techniques enhances your ability to assist effectively.
- Previous experience supporting dental sterilization procedures and instrument processing ensures compliance with safety standards.
