West Valley Cleanup Alliance is the prime contractor selected by the U.S. Department of Energy to manage the Phase 1B Deactivation & Demolition Contract at the West Valley Demonstration Project site. The site is a scenic 30-minute drive south of Buffalo, New York. In cooperation with the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, West Valley Demonstration Project continues to decontaminate and decommission facilities at this site.

Provides radiological support coverage for maintenance, operational, and routine work involving radioactive materials. Provides monitoring for Radiation, Contamination, and Airborne Radioactivity in the workplace as required by Radiological program procedures and 10 CFR 835. These activities will be performed under the direct oversight of a qualified Sr. Radiological Control Technician.

High School diploma with courses in algebra, biology, chemistry, and/or physics or equivalent

Minimum of two (2) years related experience or one (1) year as a Jr. Radiological Control Technician

Must complete DOE Core qualification standard and Oral Board for Jr RCT
-
Obtain and maintain DOE Access authorization

Successfully complete training requirements of Radiological Control Technician and other necessary qualifications

Math skills sufficient for simple calculations

Maintain a safe and healthful work environment by following established safe work practices and procedures.

Adhere to standards in the Company Code of Conduct, EEO practices, and DOE directives.

Review survey results and report abnormal conditions, including correct area posting.

Provide technical, administrative, or functional support to Radiation Protection management.

Participate in planning and monitoring radiological work and generating radiological work permits.

Independently control or plan radiological work with simple requirements.

Perform quantitative measurements and document results for shipments and material release.

Respond to and control general off-normal radiological events with minimal oversight.

Support ES&H activities including atmospheric monitoring and safety evaluations.

Recommend corrective actions to reduce contamination and radiation levels.

Perform complex tasks related to radiological, industrial, and chemical safety.
-
Maintain knowledge and perform work safely per approved policies and regulations.

Actively participate in Safety Work Groups.

Ensure compliance with company and client technical specifications and safety standards.

Promote a Safety Conscious Work Environment.

Participate in pre-job briefs and shift turnover duties.

Participate in two-minute drills or TAM before work activities.

Immediately notify supervision of any safety or nuclear safety concerns.

Identify and resolve minor issues; report major issues to supervision.

Perform dose rate, contamination, and airborne radioactivity surveys.

Provide job coverage to minimize personnel exposure.

Provide briefings and guidance to prevent unplanned exposure.

Participate in investigations and provide statements as required.

Regular onsite attendance is required.

Contribute to team efforts as needed.

Read and comprehend procedures, write permits, prepare survey maps, and reports.

Communicate verbal instructions.

Perform radiation monitoring and exposure control activities.

Handle PPE and assist others in work locations.

Support radiation protection and ES&H activities.
