Basic Function:
Maintenance Technician Apprentice is an entry-level, hands-on role designed to provide practical, on-the-job training working on mechanical, electrical, utility and facility systems in a GMP regulated facility. The Apprentice will contribute directly day-to-day maintenance tasks while learning critical technical skills under the supervision of senior technicians.
The apprenticeship provides a structured path toward becoming a fully qualified Maintenance Technician. The training will involve safety, mechanical systems, electrical troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
Day-to-Day Maintenance Support
- Assist in performing preventative maintenance (PM) on production and packaging equipment
- Respond to equipment downtime and perform basic diagnostic alongside senior technicians.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks such as lubricating bearings, replacing filters, tightening fasteners, and cleaning components
- Support line changeovers, mechanical setups, and minor adjustments during production shifts.
Learning & Skill Development
- Shadow experienced technicians to learn troubleshooting techniques on mechanical, pneumatic and basic electrical systems.
- Gain exposure to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and proper documentation procedures.
- Learn safe operation of shop equipment (Grinders, Drill Presses, Saws, etc.)
- Attend regular training sessions focused on safety, maintenance fundamentals, and system operations.
Facility Support
- Assist with basic maintenance of HVAC systems, air compressors, vacuum systems, and facility infrastructure.
- Learn and participate in cleanroom maintenance routines and environmental control procedures.
Safety and Compliance
- Follow all Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) protocols
- Adhere to all company Safety, Quality, and GMP regulations always.
- Maintain accurate records in MaintainX software.
Qualifications:
- Education- High school Diploma or GED required.
- Mechanical aptitude and strong interest in maintenance or technical work.
- Basic understanding of hand tools and power tools
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Willingness to work in a regulated manufacturing environment with strict cleanliness and safety protocols.
- Good communication, teamwork, and time management.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Enrolled in a technical or trade program.
- Basic Knowledge of tools, shop practices, and industrial safety
- Some exposure to mechanical, electrical or pneumatic systems is a plus
Skills:
- Basic understanding of mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems.
- Ability to use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.
- A willingness to learn and develop technical skills.
- Strong attention to detail and good communication skills.
- Basic computer skills for data entry and work order processing.
Physical Requirements:
- Regularly works around machinery in a GMP-Controlled environment
- Ability to stand, walk, climb ladders, work in tight spaces, and move throughout the facility for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50lbs.
- Ability to work in varying environments (cold, hot, wet, noisy, dusty)
- Available for overtime work, weekends and on-call as required
