POSITION OBJECTIVE:
The position of Transportation Coordinator – Dispatcher is done for the purpose/s of coordination of dispatch activities for buses and bus drivers for the safe and timely transportation of students.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)
- Coordinates field and athletic trips with the schools; providing cost estimates; managing changes
and cancellations; arranging school buses, charter buses, and drivers.
- Coordinates and provides support to drivers with routes, trips and bidding, maps and directions,
buses and equipment, policies and procedures.
- Resolves transportation problems and maintains effective public relations with parents, drivers and
district employees.
- Assigns properly equipped buses based on special needs of students to be transported; reviews
equipment needs and makes recommendations.
- Investigates complaints; directs emergency procedures; documents events and
allegations;
- Relieves drivers as necessary; prepares reports and recommendations.
- Reviews payroll records submitted by drivers; authorizes pay.
- May be required to back-up other coordinator position duties, including but not limited to; training and support of drivers, public and student relations, and other prescribed coordinator duties.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
- Reports directly to and is supervised by the Transportation Manager.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (positions in this class typically require):
Required:
- High school degree or equivalent
- Minimum of two years’ experience within a transportation department
- Previous experience as a school bus driver
Preferred:
- Experience in a lead or supervisory role
- School district experience preferred
- School district dispatching/routing experience
Allowable Substitutions:
- Private experience may be substituted for school district experience
- Other experience may be substituted for lead or supervisory experience
LICENSING REQUIREMENTS (positions in this class typically require):
- Valid Washington state school bus driver's license; commercial license with passenger
endorsement must be obtained within the first 180 calendar days of employment
- Valid Department of Transportation physical card
- First Aid and CPR certification
KNOWLEDGE (position requirements at entry):
- Possesses basic knowledge of safety standards, laws, codes, rules and regulations and
district policies and procedures relating to the transportation of students
- Demonstrates a familiarity with area streets, highways and district boundaries
- Has basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance requirements
- Ability to operate computer software as required for the position

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Positions in this class typically require stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time.
Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, odors, chemicals, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, and intense noises.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
CTSA salary grade 5 $ 81,834 to $ 86,141 annual salary (starting at $ 81,834), 40 hours per week, for a 260-day annual assignment. Medical, dental, vision, long-term disability, and life-insurance eligibility is based upon 630 hours worked within a school year. Retirement provided through Washington State Department of Retirement Systems. Other benefits include vacation and paid holidays.
