UtilityPower is seeking individuals to perform wire down guard duty on electrical distribution lines, from substations to individual customers or businesses locations as needed.
This is a seasonal weather-dependent position requiring travel within the United States. Travel may involve using your personal or a rental vehicle. Rental vehicle requires you to be 21 years or older, under 21 will have to furnish their own transportation. Wire Down Guards/ Wire down watchers will be placed on a storm roster and contacted when weather-related events occur. Job assignments may last from one day to several weeks, depending on the extent of damage.
Wire down Guard/ Wire Down watcher Job Duties:
- Respond to alerts, and travel to link up sites only when given the word to proceed prior to reporting for work.
- Report to your Team Lead and or Storm Manager when you arrive on site, and if you are sent out on a ticket to watch down lines. Ensure you give them the ticket number, address, and time you leave, arrive on site.
- Document and report findings in the format designated by the client.
- Ensure safety at all times, for yourself, your team, and others in the field.
- Communicate effectively and professionally.
Job Requirements:
- Familiarity with safety protocols and procedures. Stay awake, and in the required personal protective gear. IE Hard Hat, work boots, reflective vest.
- Willingness to respond promptly to assignments, including short-notice requests.
- Valid driver's license with no time or state-based restrictions.
- Personal vehicle in presentable condition with full insurance coverage, or ability to maintain cleanliness and fuel receipts for rental vehicles.
Skills Requirements for Wire down guard/ Wire down watcher:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Ability to use technology and adapt to new systems or platforms, as required by the utility.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand or walk for long periods and distances.
- Capacity to handle stressful situations and long hours.
- Ability to follow instructions or guidance as given.
