Position Overview: The Gym/Health Teacher instructs and supervises school students in sports and other physical fitness activities. They teach the basic skills, techniques and rules associated with a wide range of team and individual sports and encourage students to lead a healthy and active life.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree required.
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certification (preferred) or meet State of Michigan requirements for teacher certification.
- Strong knowledge of child development and age-appropriate teaching strategies.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to continuous professional growth and reflective practice.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction and intervention to students.
- Deliver standards-aligned instruction using technology and research-based strategies.
- Plan lessons and differentiate to meet diverse student needs and learning styles.
- Engage students through effective teaching, questioning, and activities.
- Assess, analyze data, and provide targeted interventions.
- Maintain positive classroom management and a respectful learning environment.
- Monitor progress, behavior, and support struggling students.
- Communicate with parents, staff, and maintain accurate records.
- Use technology, projects, and varied methods to deepen understanding.
- Collaborate, pursue professional development, and support school policies.
- Ensure student safety, organization, and perform assigned duties.
Candidates must demonstrate the following:
- Exceptional skill in planning, delivering and assessing student learning.
- Exceptional knowledge in research based instructional strategies and ability to implement them effectively.
- Knowledge in the use of technology to support instruction.
- Ability to maintain high standards of professional conduct at all times.
- Punctuality, good attendance and strong work ethics in all areas.
- Ascribe to the philosophy that all children can succeed and demonstrates the commitment to do what is necessary to make this a reality.
