Job Summary :
The client is seeking a detail-oriented Lab Technician II to support food microbiology laboratory operations. This role is responsible for assisting with microbiological studies, sample preparation, aseptic laboratory techniques, laboratory documentation, and maintaining laboratory equipment while ensuring compliance with GLP, SOPs, and food safety regulations. The ideal candidate will have strong laboratory skills, experience working in a food microbiology environment, and the ability to maintain accurate, traceable laboratory records.
Key Responsibilities :
- Follow proper sample handling procedures and aseptic laboratory techniques.
- Assist with the setup, scheduling, preparation, and execution of microbiological studies and laboratory procedures.
- Produce accurate, traceable, and defensible laboratory results while maintaining compliance with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
- Support microbiologists in conducting microbiological experiments and routine laboratory testing.
- Work with various microorganisms, including pathogens and spore-forming organisms, following established laboratory protocols.
- Perform microbial transfers using aseptic techniques.
- Conduct microbial identification and enumeration procedures.
- Prepare microbiological media, reagents, and laboratory solutions accurately.
- Perform plate pouring, serial dilutions, pipetting, and other routine microbiology laboratory techniques.
- Conduct microscopic observations, including Gram staining, direct microscopic counts, and wet mount preparations.
- Operate, clean, and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment to ensure optimal performance.
- Monitor laboratory equipment and communicate equipment or facility issues to management.
- Maintain accurate laboratory records, experimental documentation, and testing data.
- Follow all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), laboratory protocols, and safety requirements.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment.
- Collaborate effectively with microbiologists, laboratory staff, and cross-functional teams to achieve business objectives.
- Perform additional laboratory duties and projects as assigned.
Required Qualifications :
- Associate's degree in Microbiology, Biology, Chemistry, Food Science, or another scientific discipline (Bachelor's degree preferred).
- 4+ years of food microbiology laboratory experience.
- Experience independently performing routine and complex microbiological analyses.
- Experience training, mentoring, or supporting laboratory personnel.
- Strong troubleshooting skills related to laboratory methods, equipment, and non-conforming results.
- Excellent documentation, organizational, and communication skills.
- Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as business needs require.
Preferred Qualifications :
- Strong understanding of food microbiology principles and aseptic laboratory techniques.
- Experience with FDA, USDA, AOAC, BAM, and FDA Bacteriological Analytical Manual (BAM) methodologies.
- Experience troubleshooting laboratory instrumentation and analytical procedures.
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced laboratory environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
Pay: $18.00 - $24.00 per hour
