Position Overview
Calibizz, LLC is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant for a full-time, on-site contract assignment with a confidential client in the Sacramento area. This position offers the potential to transition to direct employment with the client for the right candidate.
The Senior Accountant will be responsible for maintaining accurate and timely accounting records and providing meaningful financial information to management. This is a hands-on role requiring a strong understanding of general accounting, financial reporting, cash flow, job costing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, inventory accounting, and operational profitability.
The ideal candidate is not simply a transaction-focused accountant. We are seeking someone who understands the relationships among the financial statements, can identify and investigate discrepancies, analyze financial performance, and clearly explain financial results and key metrics to management.
Key Responsibilities
General Accounting & Financial Reporting
- Maintain accurate and complete general ledger accounts.
- Prepare and post journal entries and account reconciliations.
- Perform monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing procedures.
- Reconcile bank, credit card, loan, payroll, and other balance sheet accounts.
- Prepare accurate monthly financial statements and management reports.
- Prepare and analyze cash flow statements and cash flow forecasts, ensuring accuracy and consistency with underlying financial information.
- Analyze cash flow trends, margins, profitability, and other key financial performance metrics.
- Analyze financial results and identify significant variances, trends, and discrepancies.
- Prepare and assist with budgeting and forecasting and identify potential cash flow or liquidity concerns.
- Clearly communicate financial results, trends, and significant issues to management.
- Provide timely financial information and analysis to support management decision-making.
Job Costing & Operational Accounting
- Maintain accurate job-cost information and ensure costs and revenue are assigned appropriately.
- Track material, labor, subcontractor, freight, and other project-related costs.
- Compare estimated costs to actual results and investigate significant variances.
- Analyze job and project profitability.
- Work with management and operational personnel to identify and resolve costing discrepancies.
- Assist management in understanding product, project, customer, and operational profitability.
Accounts Receivable & Accounts Payable
- Review accounts receivable activity and aging for accuracy.
- Monitor customer balances, payments, and collection activity.
- Work with appropriate personnel to resolve billing discrepancies.
- Review vendor invoices for proper authorization, coding, and supporting documentation.
- Maintain accurate vendor records and reconcile vendor statements.
- Assist in resolving vendor and purchasing discrepancies.
- Help ensure accounts payable and accounts receivable information is accurate and timely.
Inventory & Cost Accounting
- Monitor inventory accounting records and investigate significant variances.
- Assist with inventory reconciliations and physical inventory counts when needed.
- Review inventory adjustments and cost allocations.
- Assist in maintaining accurate material and labor costs.
- Analyze inventory and operational costs and provide meaningful information to management.
Payroll, Controls & Compliance
- Coordinate with payroll personnel or outside providers to support accurate payroll processing.
- Reconcile payroll-related accounts and review payroll expenses and allocations.
- Follow and strengthen accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Ensure appropriate authorization and supporting documentation for expenditures.
- Assist with audits, tax filings, insurance audits, and other financial reviews.
- Maintain confidentiality of financial and employee information.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
- 3–5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- Strong understanding of general ledger accounting and financial statements.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare and analyze accurate cash flow statements and cash flow forecasts.
- Strong understanding of financial statement relationships, margins, profitability, and key financial performance metrics.
- Experience with job-cost accounting.
- Experience with accounts payable and accounts receivable.
- Experience with accounting software or ERP systems.
- Strong Excel skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to identify discrepancies, determine root causes, and follow issues through resolution.
- Ability to explain financial results and key financial metrics clearly to management.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize competing deadlines, and take ownership of assigned responsibilities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with accounting, management, and operational personnel.
- Business-minded approach to accounting and financial analysis.
Preferred Experience
- Manufacturing, construction, contracting, project-based, or similar operational accounting experience.
- Inventory and cost accounting experience.
- Experience working closely with project management, purchasing, operations, or other non-accounting departments.
- QuickBooks experience.
- Contractor Foreman or similiar construction/project management software experience.

We are looking for an accountant who understands that accurate accounting extends beyond recording transactions. This individual should be able to connect financial information to business operations, recognize potential problems, explain financial results, and provide management with meaningful information and recommendations.
The right candidate will be comfortable looking beyond the numbers to understand why results changed, whether the underlying information is accurate, what the financial impact is, and what management needs to know.
Position Details
- Full-time, approximately 40 hours per week
- On-site position in the Sacramento area
- $40.00–$48.00 per hour, depending on experience
- Contract assignment through Calibizz, LLC
- Potential opportunity for direct hire by the client
