A Funeral Services Attendant is a key employee at La Paloma Funeral Services. They provide service to grieving families by helping them during the funeral service. Attendants perform a variety of tasks during the funeral, such as placing the casket in a parlor or chapel prior to service, arranging floral offerings or lights around the casket, directing or escorting mourners, closing the casket, and transporting the casket to and from a cemetery or funeral location.
Maturity, professionalism, proper etiquette and decorum must be maintained at all times. A successful candidate will be compassionate, reliable, dedicated and responsible, and have a good attitude and personality towards their work, co-workers, and clients. Attendants who perform well may be considered for other full-time positions at La Paloma Funeral Services and its affiliates when they become available; therefore, it is a great way to begin a career in the funeral/mortuary field.
Funeral Services Attendants usually work on-call; i.e., they are called to perform at funeral services on an as-needed basis, which may occur sporadically and infrequently. As such, an attendant must be flexible with her/his time.
Successful Candidates Will Demonstrate:
General Responsibilities
- Transportation of decedent bodies from funeral home to cemetery, viewing, or other;
- Ability to lift and place casket with decedent safely and competently onto gurney to and from transport vehicle;
- Task and detail oriented;
- Particular attention to respect and decorum while performing position, especially with decedents and their families;
Essential Job Functions
- Communicate clearly with clients, co-workers and management. Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish are a plus;
- Lift decedent bodies without significant difficulty onto gurney/funeral truck and into mortuary transport vehicle (dead-lift requirement of at least 100 lbs);
- Conduct yourself with a professional demeanor and appearance to third parties and clients, free from distractions. Must be clean-cut, presentable and professional at all times;
- Physical ability to carry out tasks associated with acting as a funeral services attendant, which include: Ability to operate a motor vehicle safely and proficiently; Lift decedent bodies of various weights and sizes on a continual basis to gurney and/or mortuary vehicle; Job may require long periods of standing and lifting;
- Must treat decedents and their families/our clients with utmost dignity and respect at all times;
- General cleaning of mortuary transport vehicle;
- Task and detail oriented;
- Reliable and Responsible. Employer and families expect safe, timely and expeditious performance of job duties.
- Operating a company vehicle, transporting decedents to funeral homes, cemeteries, etc. Candidate MUST have a current driver's license free of major or frequent infractions in order to be added to company insurance.
- Candidate must be able to pass a drug test, including for marijuana. Any drugs or medications , whether illegal or legal, which may impair a funeral services attendant from his/her duties operating a company vehicle may be prohibited, as they would constitute an undue burden upon the company and a potential danger to the public.
