About Us
Founded in 1947, Seattle Hebrew Academy (SHA) is a growing Modern Orthodox Jewish day school serving 200 students from Early Childhood through 8th Grade housed in a historic building in the Capitol Hill area.
The Role
We are seeking a strategic and detail-oriented Director of Finance to oversee the school's financial operations and ensure its long-term fiscal sustainability. Reporting directly to the Head of School, this leadership position will manage all accounting functions, effectively work with stakeholders and serve as a point person for high-level external partnerships including the SAMIS Foundation. This is a hands-on role that balances high-level financial strategy and budgeting with daily operational tasks.
Financial Leadership & Strategy
- Budgeting: Partner with the Head of School to prepare preliminary budgets; present final budget summaries and year-end projections to the Finance Committee and Board of Directors.
- Reporting: Prepare quarterly YTD financials and monthly Key Performance Indicator reports.
- Audit & Compliance: Lead the annual audit process, from scheduling to document
preparation. Ensure all accounting policies comply with GAAP and manage annual
filings.
Accounting Operations
- Daily Management: Oversee all accounting operations, including month-end and
fiscal year-end closes, bank reconciliations, and daily cash flow monitoring.
- Accounts Payable/Receivable: Oversee all accounting activity; review and
approve invoices and coding. Manage ACH vendor payments and daily check
deposits.
- Systems: Act as the primary administrator and troubleshooter for the MIP
Accounting System.Tuition & Financial Aid
- Parent Liaison: Serve as the primary point of contact for parents regarding tuition
contracts and financial aid.
- Contract Management: Oversee the generation of all annual tuition contract
process from production to execution.
- Financial Aid: Manage the financial aid process, including application review and
coordination with Tuition Assessment Committee.
Facilities & Administration
- Fiscal Responsibility: Collaborate with other director level positions to ensure that
projects and procurement are completed within budget.
- Risk Management: Coordinate with providers to maintain comprehensive
insurance coverage (liability, medical, and property).
- Auxiliary Services: Facilitate campus rental requests, provide fiduciary services for fundraisers, and coordinate immigration/visa processes when necessary.
Qualifications
- Experience: Proven track record in high-level financial management; experience in nonprofit or educational settings is preferred.
- Skills: Mastery of GAAP, financial analysis, and accounting software (MIP
experience is required).
- Communication: Strong interpersonal skills for navigating complex tuition and
financial aid discussions with families and stakeholders.
- Attributes: Ability to handle high-volume tasks. Maintains a high degree of integrity, flexibility, and a commitment to supporting the school’s mission.
