Locations: Bay Ridge, Boerum Hill/Atlantic Avenue, and Yorkville
Pay: $25–$30 per hour, based on experience
Schedule: Full-time, approximately 40 hours per week over five days
About the Position
One Love Animal Hospital is seeking an experienced, dependable, and detail-oriented Facilities Maintenance & Custodial Technician to help keep our three veterinary hospitals clean, safe, organized, and properly maintained.
This is a hands-on, multi-location position for someone who takes pride in their work, notices what needs attention, and can complete assignments independently without constant supervision. The successful candidate must also be able to accept direction, communicate clearly, and remain accountable for completing assigned work.
Applicants must be comfortable working around animals and communicating professionally with people. This position works inside active veterinary hospitals where dogs, cats, employees, clients, contractors, and vendors are part of the daily environment.
Responsibilities
- Travel between our three Brooklyn and Manhattan hospital locations.
- Perform detailed cleaning of floors, stairs, bathrooms, offices, breakrooms, storage areas, and other assigned spaces.
- Remove garbage, recycling, cardboard, and discarded materials.
- Keep custodial closets, maintenance areas, tools, and supplies clean and organized.
- Conduct facility walkthroughs and identify cleaning, maintenance, organizational, and safety concerns.
- Complete light repairs, including painting, patching, caulking, furniture assembly, shelving installation, filter replacement, and minor hardware repairs.
- Move supplies, furniture, equipment, and deliveries safely.
- Assist with access and communication for outside repair vendors when needed.
- Provide clear updates and photographs of completed work.
- Promptly report leaks, equipment problems, damaged locks, security concerns, and other urgent facility issues.
- Respond occasionally to emergency repair or maintenance needs outside the regular schedule.
Required Qualifications
- At least three years of verifiable commercial custodial, facilities maintenance, building maintenance, janitorial, or general repair experience. Five or more years is preferred.
- Must be comfortable working around dogs, cats, and other animals.
- Must communicate professionally and respectfully with employees, clients, contractors, and vendors.
- Able to work independently while accepting direction, feedback, and accountability.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, time management, and follow-through.
- Dependable attendance and punctuality.
- Able to prioritize and complete assignments across multiple locations.
- Able to use a smartphone for calls, messages, photographs, and work updates.
- Reliable ability to travel between all three hospital locations.
- Strong professional references are required.
Physical Requirements
Applicants must be able to perform the following duties, with or without reasonable accommodation:
- Lift, carry, push, pull, or move at least 65 pounds.
- Walk and stand for extended periods.
- Regularly walk up and down stairs, including while carrying tools or supplies.
- Bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and climb.
- Safely use ladders, carts, hand tools, cleaning equipment, and maintenance supplies.
Schedule and Hospital Access
This is a full-time position working five days and approximately 40 hours per week. Work hours and assigned hospital locations may vary based on facility and operational needs.
The schedule will include a planned night shift approximately 2 to 3 times per month to clean and maintain hospital floors after the hospitals have closed. Occasional additional early-morning, evening, weekend, or emergency work may also be required.
This is a trusted-access position with responsibility for hospital keys and alarm credentials. The employee must carefully safeguard all keys and access information and follow hospital security, safety, confidentiality, closing, and restricted-access procedures.
