Position Summary
Bill Wise’s Excavating, Inc. is a growing construction company specializing in slip repair, general earthwork, HDPE and steel fabrication, and pipeline maintenance and integrity services throughout the Appalachian region. As part of a family of companies, we are focused on expanding our labor force to support the continued growth of our field operations and ongoing projects.
The Superintendent is responsible for overseeing and managing multiple field operations, crews, and projects within pipeline, environmental, and site development work. This role requires strong leadership, advanced technical knowledge, and the ability to coordinate complex jobsite activities to ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and within scope. Superintendent serves as a key link between field operations and upper management, driving productivity, enforcing safety standards, and ensuring high-quality execution across all projects.
Required Experience and Skills
- 3–5 years of experience as a Foreman or in a similar leadership role
- Strong understanding of construction methods, heavy equipment operations, and materials required for project completion
- Proven ability to lead crews, manage subcontractors, and coordinate with company personnel and stakeholders
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple crews, projects, and priorities simultaneously
- Advanced ability to read and interpret plan sets, alignment sheets, and scope of work documents
- Strong knowledge of OSHA safety standards, jobsite safety practices, and regulatory compliance
- High attention to detail for quality control, safety enforcement, and project execution
- Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and decision-making skills
- Experience in project scheduling, planning, and resource allocation
- Ability to forecast project timelines, identify risks, and adjust workflows as needed
- Conflict resolution skills and ability to manage personnel and subcontractor issues effectively
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel, Word)
- Strong documentation, reporting, and recordkeeping skills
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
- Ability to work in outdoor environments and travel between job sites as required
- Possess or be able to obtain required General Operator Qualifications (OQs)
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily field operations across multiple crews and projects, ensuring safe and efficient execution
- Supervise field personnel, subcontractors, and material suppliers to maintain productivity and quality standards
- Develop and manage daily schedules, as well as forecast project timelines and key milestones
- Enforce all company policies and safety regulations, maintaining a strong culture of safety across all job sites
- Inspect projects regularly to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, and quality expectations
- Coordinate labor, equipment, and materials to optimize workflow and minimize downtime

- Be able to evaluate and assess employee’s ability to operate equipment safely
- Maintain detailed daily logs and reports, documenting progress, challenges, and project updates for management
- Communicate effectively with management, project managers, clients, and field teams
- Identify and resolve jobsite issues, including operational challenges and personnel conflicts
- Support budgeting, cost tracking, and resource planning efforts as needed
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and direction to Foremen and field crews
- Must complete all assigned safety training in a timely manner
- Mentor and evaluate SSE competencies
- Be able to evaluate and assess employee’s ability to operate equipment safely
